Ok so I recently ordered a bunch of parts for my New computer and on the list was an XFX 8600GT (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321124). After about a day or two i realized that I actually wanted the XFX 8600GT which is listed here (https://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321123) instead. Now the only difference between these two cards is that the one I have ordered has a Core/Memory of 540MHz/1400MHz and the one I wanted has a Core/Memory of 600MHz/1600MHz. Do you think there is going to be much of a difference in the performance of these two cards? Im looking to play games like Oblivion on high settings with about 30fps and hopefull get the same fps on crysis in medium settings.

The Rest of the PC consists of an Intel CPU Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13GHz, an MSI P6N SLI Platinum nForce 650i SLI Socket 775, 2 Gigs of Ram, and Windows XP until November or so when the real NeXt-Gen games are released (at which point I will upgrade to Vista so I can use the cards dx10 capabilities)

Thanks Guys ;)

The one is just factory overclocked while the one you got isn't. You can get your card to that speed by using ati tool and overclocking to that speed.

A factory-overclocked card runs faster than a stock card, but as stefan9 pointed out you can overclock your stock card to the same speeds with the proper tools :)

At what resolution where you planning on playing oblivion, because honestly even the 8600GTS wouldn't make 30fps outdoors @ 1280x1024 with everything turned up.

Since you're getting the stuff from the US anyway couldn't you find a GF8800GTS 320MB for really cheap (take the cheapest model, all cards are made to nVidia specifications and you won't notice any difference except when it comes to the very high end models in that range in which case you might as well get the GTX model).

Recently I've been scaling down on CPU power in trade for GPU power, you see far more benefit from increasing the GPU power than you do for the CPU power.

Anyway just my opinion.

EDIT: How exactly are you getting the stuff you order from ZipZoomFly to SA, as far as I know they only ship in North American continent? SA GPU prices are ridicules and I for one wouldn't mind importing (even if it cost me the same) just to boycott the importers (until they rectify the prices of GPU's).

Ill most prob run it in 1280x1024... The cheapest 8800 I can get is around $300 (about R2,100) and seeing as though I am building the whole PC from scratch i'm running on a pretty strict budget. Thats why I was hoping that If I bought a 8600GT now, then It will last me a decent amount of time until I upgrade to a 640 or 720 mb 8800.

Gnome: I have parents who live in the states and im currently here for 2 weeks or so while I get a work/study permit from the govt. so that I can go to university here instead of in UCT which has (im sorry to say) quite sh!tty 3D animation corses. Things are WAY cheaper in the US so I'm getting some of my components here. However International Customs into SA is becoming a bi+ch latley and if they dont buy your story that your parts are "a gift from your parents for your birthday" then u are stuck with a rediculous 21% import tax or something like that ;)
