how long would it take you to download a 2gb file on a 384 line running at 35kbps ?

it took me almost 7 hours to download a 1.7gb file and my speed was between 21 to 35 kbps

is it just me or is that slooooooooooow ?

how do people manage 30 to 50 gigs on their 384 line

anyways loving the freedom of uncapped the speed is the only issue, everything else seems perfect !

isp is MWEB btw

That is impossible isn't it?

That is impossible isn't it?

unless the speed is dropping to 0.2kbps when i'm not monitoring it,

utorrent says ave speed is 21kbps and it usually hovers around 25kbps BUT every now and again it drops to 0.1 to 0.2 kbps

is that normal ? should it be that unstable ?

Am I just really tired here? Did you say you downloaded 1.7 gigs in 7 hours on a 384 line? That's impossible.

35 K a second gets you about 123 megs an hour so a 2 gig file would take you awhile.

I think.

nah it's me :) still trying to figure out the right size etc these apps aren't very user friendly

still don't understand how other user on the same line download 30gigs etc withing a month ?

my one file (just over a gigi i think) took almost the day ???

Well, a gig a day would get you to 30 in a month.

Well dude it is pretty easy to work out

let's say you can go at a constant 35k

35 * 60 * 60 * 24 = 3gb a day roughly so take 3 x 30 and you get 90gb. Pretty easy to do. So 60-90 is easily achievable if you can maintain a constant speed.

384/8 = 48kB max

48*60*60 = 172800

172800*24 = 4147200

(4147200/1024)/1024 = 3.955GB/Day Max

3.955*30 = 118.652GB/Month Max

Nobody maxes out a 384 line, You generally cannot get more than 38-40 i reckon. When i was on 384 i never saw 40k, in theory my 4 meg line could do 512k but i have never seen more than 420 and i live less than 1km from the exchange.

Im on SAOL's unshaped, uncapped deal and am already on 30 gigs....
Its actually pretty easy to use this amount, even without 24/7 downloading.
Perhaps the secret lies in UNSHAPED VS SHAPED, as i could easily leave my netbook on 24/7 and rake in around 90gigs a month.
When i was on 3g with Vodacom, 24gigs was a years supply of bandwidth on HSDPA.
I couldn't be happier.

Like a few others have said 30-100gigs per month on a 384 line is child's play assuming you're constantly downloading and your provider is providing decent speeds.
