questionns about oil,

Mobil 1 . Period. I won't use any other oil. Even under the service plan, i insist that the dealership must fill with Mobil 1.

OP, you are overthinking things so much to the point that it is bad for you and annoying for others.

It's a very basic, old technology engine. Just phone a dealership and ask them what they use. Forget about old oil and mixing different stuff together and and and...just buy a new 5L and change the oil already. Eish!

+1 fully agree, not good to flush engines anyway unless you have the right type of flushing oil. Oil companies don't recommend it either

It all depends really. It can be good or bad for an engine depending on its condition. You wouldn't flush an old frail engine and you wouldn't flush a brand new one. It's just a detergent some oils have their own detergent that's suppose to help as well. It's definitely not required it's optional.

All major brands of oil have an additive package in them and a detergent is one of them.

Also mixing of different brands, some say no some yes.
In other words, if my remainder of my 5l is shell, and I buy castrol or Valvoline or others, will it be bad for the engine by mixing?

If the oil is pretty much same spec level, is it bad if I mix?

Saw that carbible article, and it says it's fine. But wanted to know from you if it's safe.

Not a good idea to mix different viscosity oils. I would say being an older Picanto it is probably using a 20W50 viscosity oil.

so Ill pop by my favorite mechanic to change plugs and filters, but I wanted to know about oil,
is there a brand I should use, last time I used shell, but not sure if its right for this car,
and if I buy those small cans and add up oil, will that be bad?

Ask at your local Midas / auto spares place - they're very helpful that way.
