Queuing for weeks for an iPhone 6

Just really stupid.

iOS 8 doesn't look much different from iOS 7, so maybe it's people with empty lives who want some attention?
iOS 8 will be available, as a free download, from the 17th.

And it is considerably different.

Sure there are phones with higher resolutions and more megapixels but that's about it.

So I ask again, what's wrong with the specs?

If I am not mistaken, the Apple A8 is a dual core processor. For a premium priced phone, it seems to lack somewhat when compared to the other behemoths out there - The LG G3, Samsung S5 and Sony Z3.

Smaller battery (1800mAH) does not sound enticing either. No microSD slot (again). The resolution is a bit low for the screen size as you mentioned. And yet you still get to pay the Apple price.

I am sure you can Google comparisons, but most Apple sheeple refuse to see their products for what they really are - overpriced and underspecced.

But isn't it also true that it's not necessarily what you have, specs wise, but how well you utilise it? This always used to be the debate in the PC arena when it came to Mac vs PC - particularly during the PPC days. Android has to contend with a myriad of devices from numerous vendors while iOS only has to contend with Apple devices. Brute force vs finesse - both would seem to get the job done.

The A7 already outperformed the quad cores you speak of.

It did indeed, but it had a much lower resolution screen to power. ;)

I bet you the iPhone 6 + with its higher res screen will battle to beat similar giants, especially the Note 4 which is a true octa-core 64bit device.

Nothing. But it's difficult explaining this to spec-driven Android users, where iDevice users are more driven by the refined, consistent and stable iOS experience.

That is the benefit of a closed eco-system. No worrying about different vendors, custom OS's etc. The app experience is the same on every device with iOS.

Sure - but then there are better priced options for lower specced devices :)

This is the one point I will concede - Apple has their software and hardware working almost flawlessly with each other. When I watched my friend live edit a video with a slowdown effect on his iPhone5, needless to say I was impressed. I get what you are saying about finesse.

I suppose my main gripe is just the foolishness of it all - people queueing for weeks for a device that doesn't blow us away with specs, only price. And let's be honest, with Apple you keep on paying that price in aftermarket accessories. The amount of Iphone5 cables that I have seen break (I work IT retail) is absolutely ridiculous. When you take a look at similar priced (or even lower priced) devices on offer, you have to start wondering how much is the phone really worth versus what Apple is fleecing you for.

They are the worst, morons the lot of them. Get a Huawei and see the difference, specs is not that great and it is pretty cheap but that iOS like UI (Emotion UI) and the superior build quality just goes to show that specs are not everything.

What you and every Android person who is so specs driven fails to understand is that those Note 4 and every other phone like it doesn't exist to an Apple user.

Their only benchmark of relevance is the previous iPhone and how much better/faster the new one is compared to that.

Which is also why you'll see Apple only ever comparing specs with their own devices, the rest don't exist...because they don't run iOS.

And as per my point above the better priced device for lower specs is called the 5C or 5S.

I guess the 85% or so market share that Android devices hold doesn't exist then? Yup, only glorious Apple exists. Now say 3 Hail SteveJobs and get back to saving up for the next overpriced iDevice :)
Apple will only compare specs with their own devices, because the minor improvements they make can then be marketed to the Apple slavebois as WOW MUCH IMPROVE SUCH NEWSTUFF PAY NOW.dogejpg

I am not saying that Apple is cr@p. By all means, the devices actually perform pretty solidly. Is it worth the price tag? Nah. There are way better options out there, that contrary to your belief, do exist.

This is getting silly now. It's akin to saying "My phallus is bigger than his but he's dating Cindy Crawford. How can that be? The world must be going crazy..."

You're a bit disingenuous in your above arguments. Fine, Android has 85% of the market share but Apple doesn't compete with 80% (Being generous here) of them because they're just not in the budget game. Also, if Apple devices only perform "pretty solidly" I'd hate to think what you think of it's Android counterparts. I've seen a Galaxy S5 stutter when scrolling through something as basic as a contact list.

I wasn't saying it's right or wrong or choosing sides even, I was just illustrating the reality of the matter.

The fact is that Apple people simply don't care about anything else, as if it doesn't even exist.

Even for myself I don't really look very long at non-iOS alternatives largely because switching would break my life and I don't have time for that.

Also in a world of contracts and upgrades the price is pretty irrelevant to me. Do I get a new phone for the same money I pay now? Yes...good sign me up.

Does a bigger or larger space one cost R50 more per month? Cool that's one McDonalds meal a month less.

That is the realistic cost equation for most people.

Anyone buying phones cash and upgrading more frequently than every 24 months needs therapy in my opinion.

(Obviously I exclude people from this that have the discipline to buy cash and go prepare for the same duration...but then I have to ask myself why not just have a contract).

Silly having to wait in queue. My iPhone will be in SA next week Monday or Tuesday from the US Apple Store.
