Quick DTSV Explora Installation Query

I just purchased a DSTV Explora and it didn't come with any cables (coaxial) to connect it to the satellite. It also didn't come with a 'Smart LNB', something I've read a lot about. But I'm confused as to what I actually need to connect the Explora to the existing DSTV installation in my complex. I phoned Multichoice and they were properly useless with the technical side. They told me to buy a Smart LNB, which I did, but I then realised that that was not what I needed. When I phoned back, this other lady told me I need a switch in order to provide the Explora with more power.

The existing installation in the wall looks like this:

(one white input on the left, one blue input in the middle, and the TV aerial on the right).

Can I plug the Explora directly into this using a coaxial cable? Or will I need a switch? And what is this called? I've been reading up on SATCR, Quad LNB, etc. but I'm not sure what installation this is.

Thanks a lot!
Amy

Well, thanks for the ever so helpful response, MrMag! :/
Why do you say this?

I would suggest that you sent a pm to the resident installation expert, which is Quantum Theory. If he cannot help, then refer to post #2.:D

Also, looks like they are giving you a twin sat feed, which is fine for now, but that system will need an upgrade in the next 2 years...

Thanks so much, Quantum Theory! So are you saying I need a DSTV Switch; this thing:

And would I then use 3 coaxial cables? 2 from the wall into the switch, and then one into the Explora?

One other (probably stupid) question - why is one port blue and one white? :)

That is what you need, but the latest one looks slightly different.

Get one from Space TV Randburg, or any DStv agent in the area.

Unfortunately good luck getting that switch, I tried to get one in June, they aren't made anymore. Was at Space TV they said DSTV has discontinued the switch, if you do manage to find one it will be R500+

That was when they were transitioning to the new version. They are very readily available now.

dont get the switch, it complicates life, go get one of the smartLNB's that way you keep it all on 1 cable :)

Got the switch and 3 coaxials from
Space TV, everything works perfectly, thanks so much! :)
