Whats an application that allows for quick editing of photo EXIF info? I'd like to go through all my photo's and add star ratings, location information, ec.

Currently, the Win7 one takes around 3-5 seconds to open each picture - causing somewhat of a delay considering I have 1000's of photo's

Doesnt DPP do this?

Cant you do it as a batch? You can with Aperture. :D

Can't rate photo's in batch - cause I don't know if I like them :)

Wonder if there's an app that'll create small res. e.g. 800x600 ones as 'thumbnails', and when you rate them it updates the master.

Shame - as quickly as I can go through the images I can rate them in Aperture - lightroom might be the same.

All of the pictures have already been processed, its just a matter of rating them for display on Media Center at home - with 10,000's of pictures to go through - at 3's each - it'll take a long time.

Lightroom does this as well..
and you can batch "rate" images.. then adjust specific images as you see fit.

Lightroom. Really, if you're going to be taking a lot of pictures in the future, you need a serious image management app. Lightroom is really nice and well worth the money.

Like you said you have to do them individually - especially now that is grown to tens of thousands . . . better get started :p

Now that I'm using an SLR - I do manage them properly - put my Pictures from 2004-2008 still need to be done :)

*sigh*

ExiftoolGUI and the underlying exiftool. Whatever you do, it's going to take more than 3s (note, no apostrophe ;)) per pic.

I'll look into it - the 3s (note, no apostrophe :)) is going to kill me.

Funny thing is, I'm doing this so they can display in Win7 Media Center during music, etc. , but I have to resize them to a smaller size, otherwise Windows can't keep up.

Damn 29mb images break Media Center

Seems like a lot of work just to display them. Why display all of them??? Why not only rate the 5 Stars and display those? Maybe 100 or so pics only. One tip I've read is to not bring up all pics from a series. Out of a series of pics choose the best. (Unless of course you want to show the series to display some behaviour).

It only displays 4 and 5 star images - except I have to label them as 4 or 5 star - currently all pictures are unrated

Less yap-yap more tap-tap. :p

Funny thing is - you can rate them on the tv as they display - but they take to long to display due to the size - I can resize them to a nice 1080p compatible resolution - and they display fine, but then when I rate them, it'll be the smaller image, and not the master.

good boy :)

Learning some very basic shell scripting (in this case just a for loop) is so rewarding. With ImageMagick you can do this one line, then let it run.

I think - and rightly so - he wants/has to tag the full size originals and that has to be done individually.

At least it doesnt make much sense to me not to otherwise he could just export the images he likes to a different location and avoid the tagging altogether.
