What is the best offer - local/offshore you have had experience with/ heard about / read about lately?
Intended for ecommerce site selling ebooks/available for download - need max webspace and high bandwidth availability!
I assume it will be anyone of the 100's of .com sites... BUT just which?

If money was no object u would not be reading this so apologies on that score in asking for indulgence for your valued advice!

Salute!

Local you can definately not go wrong with Hetzner... US.. well yeah.. Take your pick. There's some good options in the UK and Germany (If you can read German) as well...

www.site5.com
I have had really good US hosting from them.

Yeah, I'm with www.icdsoft.com (Hong Kong server, but they have US as well), but I'm strongly considering switching to site5.com when my contract is up. I'm very happy with icesoft, but site5's pings are better (from SA and UK), and their overall package, while slightly more expensive, is a lot more appealing.

Space/bandwidth-wise, I don't think you can get anything local for as little as these bug players are charging.

Without a doubt, Rackspace is by far the best in the business, and is recognised as such. They can be very expensive however, depending on your needs. Our rackspace bill is about R6000p/m, which is very reasonable

Thx for replies! Nick your suggestion of www.site5.com looks to be just the right all round offering with a excellent price to boot ! R32..err take 2 ...R36 for all that space & bandwidth would be hard 2 beat. Incidently, checked your shop- Interested 2 know what cc facility u plan on utilizing?...If requests had a value you'd be booming!

Thx to other contributors!

another option.

Godaddy are great.

However if you really are looking for a low-cost comprehensive deal have a look at http://www.vistapages.com. Its about USD7 a month, 8 domains, 250 GB data transfer, 10 GB store, based in Canada.

Go with Telkom.. http://www.telkomsa.net/products/web_hosting.jsp

Get their platinum package -- 80MB space (plenty for ebooks if they're .txt), 150MB bandwidth (plenty for a good few hundered visitors a year). R1000 setup and then just R650 a month!

There might be cheaper packages elsewhere, but you get what you pay for right?! Therefore, I conclude Telkom is where it's at.

Me!..Im sure you serious - so please take this podium once more!

Mr me ! Are you in the business of selling Cuckoo clocks? Is that where we at or are you simply touting for attention?

Notwithstanding the webspace been woefully short but assuming I had to take your advice, accepting average PDF ebook within my collection be 1mb with a total compliment of approx 500 ebooks and every ebook was only downloaded once p/m how much would my bandwidth surcharge be - all considered you believe its a feasible option ...you still do..or ?

What would your Telkom offering provide that makes it preferable in comparison to just the handfull of choices mentioned in this thread? CHEAPER you say! oh ok...So approx R610 pm(excl surcharges) additional monthly expenditure would be justified because .........(Please complete!). Dont forget the minor issue of the space & bandwidth comparison ! hey, for u that just passes as a NO BRAINER!

Dont expect me 2 reply...yet take the opportunity to emphasize ignorance or either admit you work for the sawdust mill or it be your desire to!

Thanks SteveV - being akin to the masters of ridicule, How did you?
In fact, if this thread was even half deserving of what I would appreciate as a "intellect on the offensive" type of answer, yet in your case, regrettably only be viewed as a "the lowest form of wit" answer, I might have joked that u spoilt the party!
Now what if he was serious?

R350 per day?

Or, unmetered as in... 1mbit-port-but-we-don't-count-the-bits?

:)

R350 a month, and unmetered as in... i have a gigabit network card unmetered
