Quitting Coffee =(

Coffee (caffeine) doesn’t keep you awake.

It simply inhibits the chemical that tells your brain to go to bed.

You can quite happily have an espresso and immediately go to bed and sleep without an issue.

Also the people who claim decaf helps them sleep are full of kak as there is no such thing as caffeine-free coffee. It’s the equivalent of 2% milk.
Anything below 99% I consider caffeine-free. :sneaky:

Huh? You don’t simply inhibit adenosine, it’s one clock-keeper among many that affect your circadian rhythms. Adenosine tells your body that you’re tired and need to rest, but it is also a timing mechanism. If your body thinks it’s morning because of the chain reaction caused by caffeine, you will get a cortisol spike at 1am and that’s it for the night, you sleep is screwed.

Caffeine will affect different people differently because of genetic variation, but there are many people who can have an espresso for lunch and that will keep them up past midnight.

What I mean is there is a misconception in how it keeps you awake as if it provides you with more energy which is not the case.

So it affects the timing yes, but this is pretty easy to override by simply putting your head down. It can’t magically give you more energy than you had and doesn’t “keep you awake” in that sense.

Sure there are always outliers, but thing is most people could physically have a coffee every hour of the day and still sleep perfectly normally, the rest is just in their head.

If you ignore it and put your head down you will sleep.

Not at all dissimilar to myth of it dehydrating you.

I watched a video some time ago which very much mirrored an experience of my own. Not overdosing, but getting off coffee...

Just today I had five cups  From tomorrow onwards I am reducing my intake daily. I am not planning to zero out on coffee though.

I've been trying to drink less coffee lately but then the next day I drink three times more. The more I try, the worse I fail.
I still have days where I fill the hopper twice then stretches where I go 2 to 3 days without even making coffee.
This is from 20 cups per day at least.
You will have good days and you will have bad days.

They are all good days though. Just trying to help the pocket. Coffee is getting $$$, as is everything else.

Holy crap. Thread popped up and for moment I thought @RedViking was giving up coffee. Nearly had a heart attack. Think it's recorded in the book of Revelations as one of the end signs. "And whenith thy time is nearing end, the crimson, horned invader shalleth refuse to swallow the nectar of heaven." Or something like that.

No, that is in Hebrews.

I'm convinced there's no way to flatten out that wild curve without some (cardio) exercise.

Perhaps some L-Theanine can help make a difference, as it is known to be of synergistic usefulness when imbibed with caffeine, but it also turns into GABA in our bodies, which could help break the wild cycle.

You okes are just sick. Reducing caffeine consumption...

Too lazy to Google. Any studies on this?

Because of the methylphenidate that I take I don't really feel these "lows" when drinking coffee.

The exception is on the weekends when I don't take the meds, and proceed to drink coffee on an empty stomach. I would get hypoglycemic and just feel "yuck". It's a not dissimilar feeling to when I drink strong coffee before a run.

Anyway, love my coffee and won't reduce the intake. It is getting expensive though.

Ive reduced my coffee intake alot due to my blood pressure. Ive been reading lots of articles that links caffeine to elevated blood pressure. Right now ill try anything not to be put on daily medication for hypertention
