Simple idea, link the title and the basic setup to perhaps save someone else a bit of time:

Next, I've started with Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl last night. Haha although I have doom in the back burner (I'll do a setup on this and quake1.5) for when the sigil wad drops. I've finished quake 2 before this, which was great with reshare4 and texture mode set GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST on OpenGL renderer.

Now for Shadow of Chernobyl if you are playing it for the first time its best to go with vanilla and fixes over a total conversion to preserve the original gameplay. With this in mind, I've looked at the reclamation project, but decided to go with Autumn Aurora as it includes ZRP and some eye candy without too much change to the core.

Now installing Autumn Aurora was pretty straightforward, but I removed sweetfx and enb from it as it works/looks better imho. I've also settled on a 90 fov. Finally, when you set the xray executable (XR_3DA.exe) to high priority, and in then in Nvidia's panel (not sure what Ati's equivalent is): FXAA: On, Max Pre render(s): 1, Triple Buffering: On, Vsync: Fast, the chop is a lot less to none during gameplay.

Of course, you can also and always check on pc gaming wiki.

I wasn't however able to get reshade working as the overlay never appears in game.

Let's play doom (well I am going to pause world and play when the si6il wad hits tomorrow)

Original: Where is your dos pc?
Original, but boxed: Setting windows up in a dosbox, well not like that is needed ;)

Steam/Gog: Which is also good to get the wads... legally.
https://www.gog.com/game/the_ultimate_doom
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2280/Ultimate_Doom/

More modern engines (there are others, I know)
Zandronum, one I'm using: https://zandronum.com/
ZDoom: https://www.zdoom.org/downloads
Doomday engine, one I've used before switching over to Zandronum: http://dengine.net/

Mods I'm running
Brutal Doom, I prefer this one*: https://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom
Black Edition: https://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/addons/brutal-doom-v20b-black-edition

*BD imho is closer to what I like in doom. That is fast music and fast gameplay. BE however limits your stamina which restricts your time spent running instead of walking. BE also have a weird camera effect, that really doesn't do it for me (the tilting, omg, the tilting). However, BE still something I'll do after the initial doom rerun with si6il

Make it sexy
I'm only running reshade4 with some minor fx selection.

Setup and configuration
Install doom from gog / steam and then you copy the wad(s) to the modern engine, in a wad folder. The Mods like BD I normally add in their own folder.

Next, I create a starters folder and create the batch files to start my wads and/or mods. For example Doom 1 with Brutal Doom:
Code:
F:/Games/Zandronum/zandronum.exe -iwad F:/Games/Zandronum/wads/doom/DOOM.WAD -file F:/Games/Zandronum/mods/brutaldoom/brutalv21.pk3

or Brutal Doom 64:
Code:
F:/Games/Zandronum/zandronum.exe -iwad F:/Games/Zandronum/wads/doom2/DOOM2.WAD -File F:/Games/Zandronum/mods/d64/bd64gameV1cqI:/x.pk3 -File F:/Games/Zandronum/mods/d64/bd64mapsV1cqI:/x.pk3 -File F:/Games/Zandronum/mods/d64/ZD64MUSIC.PK3 -File F:/Games/Zandronum/mods/d64/IDKI:/Av2.wad

or Si6il (with no auto aim and fast monsters):
Code:
F:/Games/Zandronum/zandronum.exe -iwad F:/Games/Zandronum/wads/doom/DOOM.WAD -file F:/Games/Zandronum/wads/sigil/SIGIL.WAD -file F:/Games/Zandronum/mods/brutaldoom/brutalv21.pk3

If you need an example, then start doomseeker, add what you want to play and click on Command Line

Setting up Zandronum
There are quite a few things you can set, but at least do the following three:
[X] Fast Monsters (gameplay options > fast monsters > yes) - It's just better. Trust me. (You need to set this on for each episode you start, otherwise, it goes back to "no" and starting the game with +sv_fastmonsters doesn't get applied to each episode on its own)
[X] Renderer, OpenGL (set video mode > renderer > opengl) - better performance over software renderer.
[X] Texture filtering, None (display options > opengl options > texture options > texture filter mode > none ) - Gives you the old doom look.

Setting up Reshade
Run installer, select the zandronum.exe and pick OpenGL. Now you can configure it as you like, but I have:
Bloom and lens flares
Curves
Vibrance
DPX

Stuck on the wrong screen (multi screens)
Open the console and list your devices with VID_LISTADAPTERS. Then run VID_ADAPTER <number> with the correct one for the screen it should be on. Finally, close Zandronum and start it up again.

Niche(s)
No bobbing - I've disabled all manners of bobbing as I want a smooth fast fly through
Fov - Running at 125.
Reshare - ++Vibrance, I tried normal and chrome, but color me up, please.

Finally, but not required, checkout PCGamingWiki on Doom (1993)

Now, here are three random screens, in rather an odd resolution...
