I have pondered this same question.... It has nothing to do with race, it happens across the racial spectrum. I see it even on the far West Rand.

I used to think it was tax dodging, but lately I have come to the conclusion that these people somehow wangle an awesome salary... they either bullschitt their way in, or they actually negotiate and get it.
 
if I want to drive a mil+ car, either I put down a moerse deposit...or buy the thing cash. I do not understand, when people, no matter what hue, pay instalments of 5+ for a car. Madness in my eyes.

Because then you can drive a car you normally couldn't afford? Many people just hand the car back after two years and get another one, and find that to be excellent value.

VW dealership replaced a friends Golf7 GTi (with 30 000kms) with a Golf7 GTi Performance Pack. This was after an accident while the car was in the workshop for service. The dealer showed him footage of the incident, offered to repair the car. After a long fight (one month), they replaced the car with a demo Golf7 GTi Performance Pack.

I've heard bad stories about BMW Joburg City. Its about time BMWSA takes on the matter.

I have been to the BMW World and museum in Munich and wanted to go to the BMW production plant which is open to the public for viewing. It was booked a month in advance so I should've booked earlier. It is in Munich CBD and is three stories high. So the production line is also an architectural wonder as the whole line is highly robotic and compact over three floors.

Those robots don't "just" get the colour wrong. If it was a 5 series then I am sure even more so.

I've seen it on brand new german made Audis, there'll be a paint defect on a part of the car from some malfunction, spray nozzle block or something spazzed out on the production line. Either way it does happen and sometimes it gets past quality control at the factory. Or as someone else mentioned damage during the time the vehicle is being transported perhaps halfway around the world to get to the showroom.

The point I was making is the car gets sent to a LOCAL panelbeater once the car arrives at a showroom and the defect is discovered. That's when the paintwork can get messed up as per the op story.

Sheer driving pleasure.

I have not bought a BMW in a very long time, due in part to the horrible after sales service(despite being a regular repeat customer).

I don't see why there's so much surprise about this. According to the salary surveys, most people on this forum can afford it.
