Hey Guys

I got lucky and got 13.5 k cash and now I want a laptop! So I am a developer and gamer, I like biggish laptops (15.6" - 17"), what do I get and where?

Thanks!

There is probably a good MSI lappie out there for that price. 17" screen with some performance chops is going to push your budget a bit higher, but I'm sure there is something decent out there for a 15.6".

MSI Gaming GE60 2OE Intel Core i5-4200M 2.50 GHz 8GB Memory NVIDIA Geforce GTX 765M 2GB 750GB 7200RPM HDD Windows 8 Single Language 64 bit 15.6" Notebook <-------------- I like a lot

2 questions, i5 vs i7? and how is the gfx card?

I got the one up with the I7 and SSD. Mate, if you can, add the dosh and get the I7 with SSD. Otherwise, that lappie is brilliant as well.

i7 is obviously better, but it won't be that much of a difference unless it's a quad-core mobile CPU. With the extra premium for the i7 and your intention to game with your budget, it won't be that feasible.

The GPU is pretty solid for a laptop. Looking at performance between the GTX750 and GTX760 (leaning more to the GTX750) in desktop terms. Which is good.

In laptops i5 is dual core with hyper threading, while i7 is quad core. I'd try go i7 if you can.

Yeah, if your budget can stretch to the i7, then go for it. Think there is a SSD in there as well, which makes it even better. But, you'll have to add a few thousand (R2.8k) to get there. Just remember that there is an i7 with a 760m and one with a 765m (which is the more expensive one, but with the same GPU as the i5)

Serious note, maybe just save a bit and then look at a SSD laptop, is it really such a big game changer?

You can buy whatever laptop you want and just drop in an SSD when you feel like it.

Not so easy.

What type of games do you play?

How many external monitors will you be using?

Dota 2 for now, but that is just cause my current laptop can't play anything else :( But definitely want to play the new FPS's

I have chrome cast on my TV and just one more monitor in my office, but in the office I have 2 monitors.
