So I logged in to check my data balance and see there is an amount of R15 880 for my data usage. Not sure how this can happen when they loaded a R50 limit on my account when I set the limit last year after a bill of over R2 000.

Not this crap again. Everyone should know by now that Vodacom doesn't limit your bill, no matter what limits you have in place.

Easier solution - don't use your connection in reckless abandon until it stops working. How about actually monitoring and limiting data use with apps on the devices themselves?

I wouldn't trust Vodacom with setting limits. Seems to be a common issue with them. Limits seems to work fine on MTN though. I have mine set at R1 and like clockwork my internet stops working soon after I run out of data.

How do you not realise that you're over your usage limit? Don't you monitor your usage???

I have Adsl but the sim is in the router. The adsl was connected but went off during the night. All my downloads then ran on 3g. I went in to check my data now and saw the result of about 12 hours. I had 2.8GB yesterday still.

The reality is that they never told me when they activated the limit that it doesn't work.

Ouch :(

Using Vodacom as failover in a DSL router must be the worst idea in history.

You shouldn't be on a network if you haven't researched their pros and cons online. Vodacom's inability to limit usage is extremely well documented.

Get an integrated data SIM from Telkom. :)

R16k oworth of schoolfees, they'll make you pay, don't expect sympathy.

Unless you're doing mission critical work, mobile data is too expensive to be used as failover for ADSL.

Lesson here is to move to Telkom mobile , because they're apparently the only provider who can detect (even in an active session) that you have exceeded your limit - something that the other providers don't [-]want to do because the OOB shark is bringing in free money, and ICASA is a toothless dog, fsck yeah![/-] know how to do.

The onus is on a service provider to point aspects like that out. Not everyone doesn't have a job and can research every aspect that can have an effect on their lives.

Its probably in the contract you signed.

I would refrain from jibes about having a job. There are a surprising number of very wealthy people on MyBB - people who don't care about a R16k bill.

Internet connectivity plays a big role in people's lives. Not researching how you connect via mobile is asking for problems. Not the least because you might enjoy superior connectivity from another provider at your location.

...and considering just about every person knows about OOB and limits not being applied without having to research it.

That's what you get for using Vodacom, how do you think they are so rich and pay for the best telecoms equipment in the country?

The Vodacom OOB shark has another victim.:erm:

Don't read into what I say what you want. The point relates to time not other people.

And yes I expected the limit to work. As that was my request when I asked for it.

In my line of work every aspect that can influence the client has to be clearly explained and if anything happen that has not been properly explained it is up to the company to sort out and not the client. This is also governed by our government

Telkom Mobile is the only ones that hardcap you. The others will allow data to be used beyond the billing limits while the data session is active. Only if the session stops and starts again will it come into affect.
