R16 000 data bill!

Don't read into what I say what you want. The point relates to time not other people.

And yes I expected the limit to work. As that was my request when I asked for it.

In my line of work every aspect that can influence the client has to be clearly explained and if anything happen that has not been properly explained it is up to the company to sort out and not the client. This is also governed by our government
In 2009 I was hit with a R4k OOB bill which I fought for months, even begging for logs of what was downloaded. You know what they did?

They terminated my contract, blacklisted me, forced me to pay the remainder of my contract, forced me to pay the R4k bill and just to spice things up, deleted my number which I had for 10 years.

Yes, some of us know what we're talking about.

Clearly this looks like it is going to turn out to be very expensive school fees!

Will have to find an alternative as fallback for the Adsl

I use Telkom Mobile package of 10GB for R199 as my fallback. SIM not actively inside router like yours but it's available.

If I remember Vodacom can cap you if you're on prepaid but not on contract because that's super hard.

Also that limit thing applies to calls and SMSs not data if I remember.

Using Vodacom as failover in a DSL router must be the worst idea in history.

You shouldn't be on a network if you haven't researched their pros and cons online. Vodacom's inability to limit usage is extremely well documented.
What a BS thing to say. Why is he at fault they said they sat a limit, they clearly lied and this is not the first time.

It's not a inability to do so it's a conscious decision by Vodacon to fck their clients over end of story.

Like I told the guy instore your competition can get it right so why can't you?

Needles to say, no longer a Vodacon customer.

Telkom Mobile is the only ones that hardcap you. The others will allow data to be used beyond the billing limits while the data session is active. Only if the session stops and starts again will it come into affect.

And Afrihost/Axxess.

I was about the recommend Axxess. Have Axxess as a tertiary failover at the office. Thus data accumulates for up to 3 months, thus if a real emergency happens where all ADSL lines failed, i will have the data buffer to go on. and its pre-paid, thus hard capped.

Which is exactly the reason for Bryns comment.
You say it's BS but then proceed to point out exactly why it's not BS.

Yes unfortunately you had to learn the hard and expensive way.

Use Telkom as the safest option as they block anything out of bundle immediately and it loads a page which specifically asks you if you want to continue out of bundle.

I wish someone had the money to take Vodacom to court over this nonsense. Either they must enforce the limit as promised or they mustn't offer a to put a limit in the first place.

(I ported to Telkom Mobile in the end, coverage isn't as good but at least no nasty surprises)

When you drive past their palace on the N1 it just makes you dislike them even more...

He made it out like it's not Vodacom's vault.

Vodacom is scum for how they treat OOB data. The other networks are proof that there is no technical limitation preventing a network from cutting off a user's data when they reach a limit. I haven't defended Vodacom's behaviour.

That said, this crap with people getting hit with massive bills is old hat at this point. Anyone who puts themself on Vodacom's network should know to watch their data like a hawk. You have no recourse if something goes wrong, and can only hope for goodwill from Vodacom, which is usually restricted to a repayment plan. No one has yet taken Vodacom to task in court.

Ignorance is no excuse in my opinion. This is the information age.

It kinda is.
I wouldn't expect most elderly people to know such things. And the elderly aside - there's just a lot of people who don't follow tech news who wouldn't have any reason to suspect this might happen to them. Most people reasonably assume a company like Vodacom isn't out to screw them at every opportunity.

I see my company's head office in the same street has more pillars :crylaugh:

Must be the in thing to do in Midrand :)

Why would anyone assume that?

My granny is sorted nicely with her DSTV, electronic equipment, phone, internet etc. thanks to just asking her family for advice. Not once has she been manhandled by a sales person.
