Hi Guys,

So my drag link on my SLK is making a terrible knocking noise, took it in to Mercedes and they told me I need a new drag link. Fair enough, they quote me R7200 on just the part.

I have looked high and low for a new drag link, I found some really good ones at good prices (around R2300) but the problem comes in that everyone I have phoned only has a drag link for the 6 cylinder and not the 4 cylinder SLK.

The only difference between the 2 different drag links is one bracket being on an opposite end of the link.

Does anyone here know where I can find a drag link for the SLK 200 before I lay down R7200 at a Dealer?

I have some play on the drag link on my 6 cyl, may contact you sometime for more info ;)

Is it definitely the drag link? What triggers the knock etc?

Have you tried Imcomex for the parts?

I have not tried them yet so will do that thanks.

Definitely the drag link. When I lock the steering wheel or turn a little sharp it makes a loud noise. going over bumps and so there is no noise.

My car was pulling to the left so wen to get alignment done and the guys could not get it right, and after they fiddled the knocking noise started. Mercedes said its a typical sign of drag link failure.

#1 in the image, it's pretty much one piece.

One guy said they can cut the bracket off and weld it on the other side then send it for x-rays to make sure its "strong".

I would rather not do that, just doesn't seem quite the safe thing to do....

Given how much of the R170 front end is based on a W202, I wonder how similar the drag links are.

Don't have my copy of EPC at work unfortunately, let me see if I can find one online.

That would be interesting, I also have a W202 and was wondering that over the weekend.

Trade it in for a V6? :D

I was actually going to buy the V6 but the guy who had both convinced me to go for the 200 LOL. The only V6's I saw when looking were in a shabby condition.

You can import it yourself if you can stand the delay, but I'm not sure if you'll save much. I'd go onto a couple of UK forums and find out what it's likely to cost over there.

I don't mind waiting a while, let me get on to the forums and see what I can find. I am pretty sure the savings will be decent.

I don't mind paying for the part but I just feel what Mercedes is charging is OTT.

Ok I have found a drag link from Tekno SA (Turkish company called Teknorot) For a decent price. This part is Turkish made.....not sure if I should trust them or not? The guy says they are biggest suspension distributor in SA and only Tekno SA and Mercedes Benz keep this part.
