No, this not an appropriate response to the situation. Purging is required (call it a Zupta Blue Label enema).

Otherwise we just slide (further) into a morass of corruption, cronyism and the loss of freedom that was so dearly won (and not just by the ANC).
 
Jacob Zuma is scared of being prosecuted and facing jail time, even more so for his family involved with his crimes. Also, he is under great pressure from the Guptas ensuring their protection. If they are not offered a way out of the mess they created, they are here to stay. We will see a lot of in-fighting and moves to appoint new people to protect the Zumas and Guptas. Nothing good will come from this at all. They will not leave freely and face prosecution. Some times, worse/unpopular decisions are necessary for the good of the country.
 
So perhaps crime does pay after all, especially in Africa..

IMO the ANC desperately needs to get rid of Zuma in order to survive, but recalling him wouldn't quite buy his silence like amnesty would.

I'm on board with this under some conditions:

1) He remains in South Africa and does not renounce his citizenship. Keeping him here is easier than trying to extradite him from another country.

2) That he accept the amnesty and the money in return for dishing out the dirt on the people who helped him or who he paid for/off.

3) That he reveal, in detail, everything pertaining to the crimes he committed, and how he helped the Guptas set up shop here.

All of this is well worth the R2 billion asking price. We can recover more money than that if the investigations are given the crucial details that we need from Zuma, and if we can arrest the rest of the thieving bastards who helped him.

As for Zuma himself, he'll have his money, but he won't enjoy it for very long. Duzudane won't see it because he'll have acquired residency and citizenship in Dubai by the time that happens, and in all likelihood his wives will squander it all. Zuma will likely meet an untimely end fitting for his age. Same for Khubuluse, who'll probably have an ATV accident on Nkandla.

Not only that, but any move charging, arresting and prosecuting Zuma may splinter the ANC and probably invoke a civil war, especially from KZN ranks. I think the ANC already thought this one through.
 
Leave him be to serve his term then gladly take R1bn to prosecute him when he leaves office. The lawyers are already drooling at the prospect of that payday no doubt :D
 
The problem is that we'd still be sitting with the inept and corrupt ANC. R2bn for the ANC to dissolve would be excellent value. For just Zuma to go, not so much.

Maybe also take, say R100mn of that R2bn and use that as reward for any credible sources to come forward with evidence of his (jg783's) wrong doing / shenanigans.

This is the problem with State Capture. The powers of decision-making resides elsewhere.

If the allegations are true that the Guptas have captured Zuma and the ANC, then the party or government do not have the power or authority to make any such decisions and they are forced to support Zuma who has been kept in his position by Guptas.
