R50 Uncapped 24hrs - Discussion

mtn R50 uncapped

I think its a load of bull. i normally download at a average of 500kbps ave. when i purchase normal data bundles, yesterday i tried mtn uncapped 24 hour and after 140 mb i was shaped down to 18 kbps for the remainder of the 24 hours.you would be lucky to get 1 gig down. Anyone elsr that says they got more obviously are talking SH*T and are promoting the product.

Please send comments

I got more and I'm not talking shyte. I've activated it twice before. First time after a forumite from here claimed to not get shaped (I hoped to get lucky, didnt happen), and 2nd time a few months ago.
First time I did it in my 3g phone. Loaded the R50 uncapped at midnight on a Friday night (Saturday morning?) It was on and downloaded the entire 24 hrs. I planned it that way. Ended up using 6GB. 2nd time I did it, a few months ago I got 5GB. 50 bucks for that much is not bad. What I learned was not to stream or watch online videos. It's only worth downloading and torrenting files. If you plan what you'll download, and load it at a not so busy time (weekend), results should be similar to mine. I await the comments of others.

Hi Romito
Since 2010, when you first posted about the MTN "unlimited" bundle, did you try it yet? If you did, would you care sharing your experience?
I've been using Telkom (8ta) and it's starting to make me a pauper... but I am wary of using unlimited bundle because of throttling after 150MB. Any way around that?

Back in the day when their accounting system wasn't top notch you would be able to get more than you bargained for, the R50 would be value for money. You would receive your money's worth. Sometimes I would be able to achieve 20 gigs or more on that day, not sure today.

I used to be able to run it for +- 3 days downloading all day. I haven't tried it in about a year since I went over to 8ta and also got giga 200 from cellc, that was before getting ADSL of course. There was a specific time I had to activate it in order to benefit from the glitch. Used to get an error message when activating, when that happened I would pull 16 or more Gigabytes in a day and kept going until a power failure or anything reset the connection.

Yeah those were the good old days! You would be able to get value for money for that R50 spent. I will give it a bash but highly doubt there are any loopholes anymore.

Yip will be getting this, however will be getting another prepaid sim just for this, with automatic dialer, it finally seems I will be able to keep steam up to date, in part.

As for not getting throttled, I did find a trick to it, some times it works for a couple of 100 meg afterwards, and like this weekend 8 gig, before MTN fixed the "problem".... don't bother even asking ;)
