R500 bail for killing cyclists

Jip. That is SA. If you give the finger to the blue light brigade it will cost you more than that.
 
This is the exact point i was making about our police force yesterday, i cannot imagine how bad it must be to be a policeman and see people like walk on 500 rand bail. We all blame the cops for the crime in this country but we are blaming the easy scape goat and ignoring the major flaws in the system which basically renders our police force useless.

True. It would be crapy to see this after you have done the work. You end up thinking. I get a cark pay and when I do my work it gets undone in any case.

Yea look this case is a bit different because it does not seem like his intention was to murder 3 people.
 
Uhm... this is bail, not a fine? Bail has very little to do with the crime, and is much more about the financial status of the individual, and their flight risk.
 
He wasnt find R500, he was offered R500 bail deposit. That figure is based on what the judge feels the risk of him running away or committing another crime is. Obviously, the judge feels that the chances are low.

If he got convicted and then fined R500, yeah I'd be pissed.
 
Bail is NOT punitive. Sigh - learn the basics of a criminal justice system.
 
If it truly was an accident, why should he be punished? This is what the courts will decided so we cant all jump to conclusions until the facts have been revealed.

I haven't been following the case, but how did he hit all three of them? Were they riding next to each other on a public road? If so, then as per the Road traffic act (Rules of the road 311.1&2) They were in the wrong.

I am also sure I am going to be flamed, But I see it all the time. I have to drive a road into work that Cyclists have taken to use for "training". At least 2 times a week I have to hold back in my car while there are groups of them taking up the whole road. If the road hasn't been closed for a race. Its the cyclists who are in the wrong and not the drivers of motor vehicles .

If it is decided that it was truly an accident and he hit them because they were breaking the law. He isn't going to be fined anything at all

You cannot be framed for been right, that is unless you post on MyBB. Anyway yeah, its the same for JUB JUB, they are jailed for Murder and Attempted murder. these ANC cronies do not even know what murder is? No wonder Murder comes so easy in this country as it seems like another petty crime in South Africa. Whatever happened to "Manslaughter"?

No your are spot on dude, i was in the wrong in my above post. Cyclists tend to travel across an entire lane sometimes as if it is their right or something. Similar to say a group of 3 or 4 black people, they will walk in the middle of road and give you a look when you hoot at them as if you are doing something wrong.

Ah! I thought the law stated that cyclists have to ride in single file!
I been tempted to bump the arrogant pricks off their bicycles on many occasion.
 
I'm tending to go with the driver on this one.

There is no mention that the driver attempted to pass on a solid white line or on a blind curve.
There is no mention that the driver was under the influence.
According to reports the cyclists who survived say they were slipstreaming and watching the wheel in front of them - not the road.
If they were in single file on the edge of the road I don't see how a vehicle passing would would move so far to the right that they would have been struck - unless they were riding in the middle of the lane.

Is this anything more than a tragic accident ?

Other than driving in a lane like i am suppose to? How is that doing something wrong? Should i perhaps swerve into oncoming traffic so they can walk in the middle of the road alf?

If the anc is happy for julius to sing kill the boer then i can generalize but being white i will be called racist while our government does not think julius is racist :D

So i am past the point of caring what people deem racist and what they do not.

Also if they were riding incorrectly, They could of been breaking 319.1 as well

Riding on pedal cycles

311. (1) No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle.

(2) Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time.

(3) No person riding or seated on a pedal cycle on a public road shall take hold of any other vehicle in motion.

(4) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall deliberately cause such pedal cycle to swerve from side to side.

(5) No person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall carry thereon any person, animal or object which obstructs his or her view or which prevents him or her from exercising complete control over the movements of such pedal cycle.

(6) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road shall do so with at least one hand on the handle-bars of such pedal cycle.

(7) Whenever a portion of a public road has been set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, no person shall ride a pedal cycle on any other portion of such road.

(8) A person riding a pedal cycle on a public road or a portion of a public road set aside for use by persons riding pedal cycles, shall do so in such manner that all the wheels of such pedal cycle are in contact with the surface of the road at all times.
