Dene Smuts, spokesperson for the official opposition Democratic Alliance, called on Erwin to present the Infraco case to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications.

“Finance minister Trevor Manuel's announcement under the medium-term expenditure framework of R1.4 billion or portion thereof for minister Alec Erwin's Infraco needs to be taken to public hearings by the Portfolio Committee on Communication and Public Enterprises. I do not blame minister Erwin for setting himself up as telephone minister number two, given communications minister number one's shortcomings,” she notes

LOL

 ic foresees disaster on the horizon for InfraCo - as soon as the tyrant her Poisonous Ivyness digs her claws into something, it all goes to hellkodemonopolies...

What is it about her Poisonous Ivyness that Thabo Mbeki likes so much - could it be the 100% pure incompetence? - surely one would actually want to be surrounded by competent filing cabinet ministers so they can take care of things whilst the president is away again & sticking his nose into the problems of every other country except for SA...

Very interesting read,
re: SKA project, another article today in the Australian press.
Road threatens WA's $2b telescope bid
Look like the Aussies built a road through their prime bid location which was handpicked by international astronomers :D
Its only considered to be "the most important radio astronomy project in the world" :D

How's Dene Smuts's bitchslap on Ivy

Excellent :D

and a very good question.
“Is minister Erwin taking us back to a giant state telco (part-owned by Tata?), or does he just want to offer cheap wholesale capacity to all players?” Smuts asks.

Paris needs to get his finger out first though before any of this can happen, Rofl.

Nice one from Dene Smuts.
Tannie Ivy slaap op die job. :D Nou moet Boetie Erwin haar werk ook doen. LOL. Ag fooitog, arme Ministers werk hulle vingers af.
When the Boswell Wilkie Circus closed down, these guys took over.

Thanks to Trevor for giving us some of the public's money back from all those Telkom Share Sales and Dividends to provide the country with yet another submarine cable as the one we had was given on a platter to Telkom with no strings attached.
The Public's money has just gone full circle.

Re Paris. When was it? 10th of October? He stated he will fire himself if Number Portability isn't implemented by that date. So it looks like he may be out of the picture. :D

Time to implementation of new cable. Unknown.

What I would like to know is where is the government getting all this money from? 30 billion here, and 30 billion there, and 10 billion, etc, ad infinitum. We must be richer than I thought.

Perhaps her Poisonous Ivyness contacts Smutsy to ask for some more pocket money to re-grease the wheels of the gravy-train?

Why don't they just take that cash and pay off Teklom to free up the SAT-3 cable. Broadband now, not in 5 years time.

Infraco plans to lay its own undersea cable to compete with Telkom's SAT-3 cable

I thought T's rights to the cable were coming to an end early next year anyways?

Personally I am rather worried at GVT stranglehold on the Telecoms Industry. They absolutely refuse to open up the market. And now by setting up InfraCo under the label "Cheaper Telecoms" they creating themselves as the most important chain in the link. Doest make sense to build, deploy, take to market then privatise?? If thats the case its going to be another Telkom story.

Either way... The more the GVT plays with its marbles about how to control the Telecoms industry. We are falling way behind. Today we got 1MB line and the world got 100MB lines. 5 Years time the world will have 10GB lines and we'll have 100MB lines.

Either way as things stand you can kiss innovation and progress in the ICT sector good bye.
