R893m subsea cable for SA

Telecoms infrastructure provider Techteledata said that it is in discussions to build an undersea cable from Mtunzini to Cape Town, connecting East London and Port Elizabeth in the process.
 
R900m for that?

WACS and Seacom both cost approximately $650m, so R5.8bn for a 14000km cable.. so about R414m per 1000kms. Assuming a 1600km cable I get to a figure of about R650m.

Seems like someone is making a bit of extra cream here...

This is south africa, people come from far and wide (but mostly local) for the obviously plentiful cream!
