Race row threatens to split Proteas squad

Pity he has to spoil his legacy with those comments.
Cricket SA did plenty for him, even defending him against rape accusations.

Race row threatens to split Proteas squad

That is a very misleading title as there is no story about the squad not agreeing about this......

Fscking retarded editor.

Yes, and Yes

Wasn't Ntini also accused of rape at some point...? Cannot remember the exact details....

He was. Got convicted and got 6 years. He appealed and got off as it was found he wasn't proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

He had the same hissy fit when he was fired.
If it came from someone else I would have said fire the lot and start over.

How many whites are in Bafana Bafana again?

2 in the last starting XI, if you were paying any attention.

Thami is getting old, and I wouldn't play him, however SA does need a proper wicket keeper. AB's career will be hurt by keeping. As for black players being over looked, my only complaint is why Tsotsobe was left behind.

+1. He is miles better than Kleinveldt.

Tsotsobe has admitted that he's not even bowling well enough for The Dolphins at the moment. He's not in good knick right now and we'd be carrying a liability, by his own inference...

Compared to the wonder that Kleinvelt was? Also, not on a racial issue, but on a player rotation, how many chances does Rudolph get? Shouldn't we try a younger batsman?

I think they might have been looking at that option, but with Duminy out now Rudolph is safe for the moment.
I agree with this as rocking a test team is never a good thing, small changes over longer periods.

If Rudolph does however not pruduce the goods in the next 6 months and duminy returns in fair form, and Faf performs well, then rudolph should be dropped for Faf/duminy

I'm such a Rudolph fan and the lad has been tossed around in the squad over the years like Albie has, to both their detriments. He's proven his mettle at provincial level time and time again. I'd have to say that if he doesn't perform this tour then he could be on his horse though. With the JP injury it opens up another chance for Ashwell Prince who is a very good batsman too. I agree that Kleinveld is useless though. He's not a test bowler whatsoever in my opinion. I don't know what the solution is in that respect - Chris Morris is bowling around the 150km/hr mark these days and could be dangerous if nurtured properly. Aaron Phangiso shows some taken for the future in my opinion.

Our next wickie will no doubt be Quinton De Kock, but the politics involved here are going to work against him...

I really do not rate Faf as a batsman. He is technically inept in my opinion. He's also not a very good spin bowler. He's no better than say, Nicky Boje, or Justin Ontong, Farhaan Berhadien. I'd like for us to develop a proper middle order batsman instead of these jack of all trades, masters of none...

You also rated Levi as a batsmen, dropped us out of the World Cup.
Faf is very capable.

Faf has done very well. We will see how he holds up in the Test arena. If he bowls spin as well as Boje then great as Boje is a bowling all rounder and Faf a batting all rounder.

I am not sure if Faf will make the cut in the test arena but he has shown that he improves given time, so with Duminy out I am more than happy with his selection, but I am also not expection him to be as good as JP.

Wow, sorry DJ..., if this is true then your batting assesment skills has dropped a lot in my eyes :D

Ntini's test career bowling stats:

Tests - 101
Inns - 190
Balls - 20834
Runs - 11242
Wkts - 390
BBI - 7/37
BBM - 13/132
Ave - 28.82
5W Hauls - 18
10W Hauls - 4
An average of 29, given that he played most of his career on bowling-friendly pitches, is nothing special IMO. Donald got 60 fewer wickets in 30 fewer matches, now that was a bowler. As was Pollock. As is Steyn.

Heck Morne Morkel matches up to Ntini's stats, and he sprays the ball everywhere and takes wickets off no-balls. Even Jimmeh Anderson has a similar record - if he goes on to play 100 tests and take a similar amount of wickets, would you rank him as a special bowler? Ntini's purpose in the team was primarily to serve as an icon, to encourage more black kids to start playing the game. Given all that CSA has done for him, it's irresponsible for him to be making comments like this.

His batting is actually pretty good, and talent-wise I reckon he's close to AB. They went to the same school and basically grew up playing their cricket together, but AB made it ahead of him. Scored 600 runs in 4 matches with 3 100s this season in first class cricket. Performances like that indicate talent. And he's a brilliant fielder, something we need if AB is going to be keeping.

More drivel.

As I posted earlier, his highest ranking was #2 at 860 or thereabouts with more than 6 yrs over 750 pts...so maybe the rankings computer was rigged in his favour, hey? Did you have another fast bowler capable of that at the time so that the icon could be dropped?
Morkel has a highest ranking of 770 (current 721), wickets per match and average worse than Ntini...drop this icon encouraging tall people
James Anderson at least bowled England to a Ashes victory when Aussies were dominating.

And as I said earlier one of his strengths was returning as a stock bowler because of his fitness and keeping the pace high...that is not even measured by statistics.

You are trying hard to revise history when you are implying that he wasn't picked on merit.

It's not drivel, all you're doing is speaking about his peak. He'd become virtually ineffective in the last few years of his career, yet he kept getting picked. If you can find the cricketing threads on here during those years, you'll see everyone going on about why he keeps getting picked. But that's irrelevant to his peak, and his golden period, so I suppose that doesn't mean much to you.

I will indulge you further.

Up until 2009 he was tracking at the same level. In 2009 he only played 5 tests of which 3 against Aussies and only bowled in one of the two innings against England...those were the lean games. In 2008 he took 54 wickets.
You are revising history by saying "the last few years".

Today at Adelaide you see the worth of a bowler that doesn't break down because he himself (rather than a team of minders who wouldn't have kept up with his running pace anyway) kept himself in suberb shape.
Two bowlers broken down today after being smacked with a feather...if you want to be effective then firstly you got to be fit enough.

His stats alone would be good enough, but in addition he was able to be a stock bowler too that kept bowling and kept coming...besides you didn't need a cover because he could field there while bowling.:p

And he was guilty as sin... The "good" Doctor greased some palms and Ntini was free to play again. He's a disgrace.

Note: I'm not discussing his bowling abaility nor doubting it.

Guilty as sin ? The lady that accused him of rape was taken to the ground and could not even point out the toilets where the alleged rape had happened.
