Former South Africa fast bowler Makhaya Ntini claims the Proteas' reserve wicketkeeper is not playing because of the colour of his skin and the tourists may face further condemnation as they consider a replacement for JP Duminy.

Duminy snapped an Achilles tendon after play on Friday night and the obvious replacement is Faf du Plessis, a batsman whose part-time leg-spin would fill the gap in a team with four fast bowlers.

But his likely selection will mean a further snub for black wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile, who could have been included had the team balance been changed.

South Africa's iconic black fast bowler Ntini launched a stinging protest against Tsolekile's omission from the team last week, saying the only reason he was not in the side was he wasn't white.

"Tsolekile would have been playing if he was white," said Ntini, who played 101 Tests.

"People will say we are talking politics, but we need to say these things.

"I don't understand how we can only have one black cricketer in our squad.

"I always felt as if I was on the verge of being dropped. Whenever a new bowler came into the side the question always was whether they were coming to take my position."

Maths is not his strong point.

Hashim Amla,Tahir, Vernon Plilander,Alviro Peterson, Elgar, Bahardien, Tsotsobe, Robin Peterson, Wayne Parnell.

Black and player of colour are not the same thing so Tahir, Hashim, Bahardien, Robin, Wayne, JP, Alviro don't qualify.

Isn't Elgar white?

So demeaning to players of colour, classifying them like this. That's the irony, the mechanism designed to promote their status in the sport only serves to rob them of their dignity and compromise their integrity.

Hashim Amla, - Indian
Tahir, - Pakistani (international) Classified as white
Vernon Plilander, - Coloured
Alviro Peterson, - Coloured
Elgar, - Coloured
Bahardien, - Coloured
Tsotsobe, - Black
Robin Peterson, - Coloured
Wayne Parnell. - Coloured

It shows had stupid South Africa is. We have so many BEE (Black Economic EMpowerment) laws and scorecards that doesn't differentiate between Indian, coloureds and Africans as it implies they are all black. Now in sport Mr Ntini want us to differentiate. This is the most non white players there has ever been so IMO Mr Ntini is just being a jerk.

It does differentiate between non whites, as well as gender.

So you are saying Chinese, Indians, Africans and coloureds each have their own criteria in BEE laws and do not all fall under black (treated the same)?

AB is a much better batsmen, and would be the natural choice to take the gloves - given that he can also keep.

You loose an option by going with Tsolokile whose average is half of AB's.

AB has been struggling with his batting and if there is no improvement and the solution is suggested that he give up the gloves, then i would support Tsolokile coming into the squad.

Thami level-headedly hit back at Ntini:

But Tsolekile said Ntini may have been reacting out of hurt.

"Having played most of my cricket in the township and, with Makhaya also growing up in the township, obviously he was an icon," Tsolekile said.

"He has done very well over the years. What he said was quite disturbing and I wouldn’t know why he said that.

"He was speaking on behalf of himself. Maybe he has got his own reasons for why he said that. The fact is that he is talking from a point (of view) where he wishes to and would love to see more African players playing for the Proteas. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what he meant."

Also read on News24 that Thami stated that he's actually a relative newcomer and understands that he needs to work his way into the team as opposed to fighting racial politics to get there...

So Ntini wants us to believe that the selectors would choose inferior players purely because they're white. Sorry, not buying it. After all, the selectors' careers are at stake if they don't get team selection right.

True or False?

K@k.

1) Google Dane villas, Kuhn and Q. De Kock's stats.... they outscore Tsolikile on all fronts. Thus he should not even have been there in the first place. As to if he was white.... he still would not have been included as Kirsten favours AB as a keeper to open up a slot for an extra bowler or batsman.

2) When he was still in tip top form there was no way a new bowler would have taken his place.... wtf!?

A bit rich, coming from a guy who played because he was black. How a bowler was allowed to play 101 tests without any variation apart from his stock ball (didn't even have a slower ball) is beyond me. Even when it was time to drop him, there were concerns about the political impact. He must shut his trap and get on with his life now.

Ntini's coments were not well thought out. Possibly Tsotsobe has a case over Kleinveldt (imo) but Thami as a specialist wk over AB is not a good idea.

However, the following is equally badly thought out...

Yes he did not have a lot of variation or a slower ball, but he took nearly 400 wickets didn't he...including 4 x 10 wickets. I don't think he ever missed a game through injury because inarguably he was the fittest fast bowler of his generation if not ever...in otherwords he made up for a little lack in talent by doing something within his control- being the fittest, running regularly about 10km a day at a pace that would make most club runners envious. This enabled him to be almost as quick at the 20th over as he was at the 1st, which imo is what a whole lot of fast bowlers lack and could learn from....and that is with running after his own fielding.

Highest ranking was 863 at #2 with more than 6 yrs over 750 points...you wouldn't pick him for so many games???

When he was dropped he had only one or two bad games and they said see you later. I don't have an opinion on the outcry at the time, wasn't paying attention, but irrespective of race, his permamnent axing came very swiftly.

Oh btw can anyone remember the one test wonder who replaced him...even statsguru on cricinfo struggles to remember.

Really great move that one. By all means argue that his form had declined somewhat- no argument there...but the bloke who replaced him wasn't better than him
