Zille said it was inevitable that, before an internal election of this nature, "people mobilise in this way".

"I have treated all candidates absolutely equitably on the basis of the facts before me," she said today.

"During an election contest, all sorts of things are hauled out in the battle for votes.

"I call this 'electionitis'. It is a very serious disease, but the sufferer recovers quickly after an election. Let's just get this behind us."

I agree with Zille on this one, its congress season, and all sorts of stuff will come out that really would have been solved when they arose if they were legitimate.

Botha was accused of conspiring to stop Zille from being national leader in 2007, insulting her by calling her, among other things, a liegbek (liar).

It was reported at the time that Botha had threatened to retire from politics if he was not re-elected to the position of provincial party leader when the party held its biennial provincial congress in 2007.

In an email addressed to other coloured members of the DA, Martin wrote: "(She said) nothing about suspension, dismissal, leave or what an embarrassment to the party..."

He said Zille's approach had been different when compared to her handling of the Max matter.

But could Zille have done anything considering that Tony Leon was the party leader back then and she was competing with Botha for the leadership.

I've been to DA congresses to vote for candidates and unless your really into politics and back-stabbing, it leaves you walking away with a disgust for all politicians. I remember voting against certain DA members, not because of their race (white/coloured) but to keep "their-coalition" out.

This was at the time when Peter Marias was still with the DA.

Politicians = scum who would do and say whatever to get elected.

Agree JungleBoy, reason why I have zero interest in participating in the DA anymore. Still a card carrying member as it still gives me leave-way to bitch at the correct people in power when I have an issue to resolve (broken street lamp, etc)

Don't forget all those road signs they don't repaint.

All politicians really care about is themselves. It does not matter who it is, DA, ANC, COPE, whatever.
