To those to the right (of me) I say: the more you mock and jeer at Jacob Zuma the more you secure him. The majority of people in SA will instinctively protect someone under racial attack. Just listen to yourselves sometimes.

Because the criticism comes largely from the white populace, and as we all now know, as a white you can't criticise a black person without it being judged racist.

The article makes some good points, but it's also laden with overused white apologist rhetoric.

It seems no white person is willing to write an article about the subject without indulging in some white guilt in the hopes that this will absolve them of being labelled a racist. If I'm honest I cannot even blame them with the current racism witchhunt on the go.

Other problems I could point out, but an opinion like that is simply and factually wrong.

This is how he explains his use of the term:

Racism is the result of a conviction of racial superiority, accumulated and moulded over time, among people of the same race, with reference to another race.

And then he further notes:

Is racist speech the same thing as hate speech? No. Europeans and Africans alike are equally capable of hate speech.

So in that sense, I agree with him, broadly speaking black people don't have a view of racial superiority over whites. But they absolutely are capable of hate speech, as Velaphi Khumalo so eloquently showed us.

I would call that phenomenon 'racial hate speech', though. As race was clearly the basis of his hate speech.

I'm not entirely convinced by that definition of racism, though. Not sure it encapsulates the reality of racism. Using race as the basis for prejudice of any kind surely needs a term, even if it isn't as a result of a sense of superiority?

Agree with much he says, while I disagree vehemently in other statements.

But all in all a good sentiment: Stop this shyte and let's build a country.

Tbh, I've watched the same masses fighting over an ever decreasing pile of swill. Yet if you could channel all that energy into something positive, each and every South African could have a good life, have something to pass on to their children and grandchildren. Yet at the rate we're going now, which a not so little help from politicians, we're all bound to end up telling our children why we couldn't leave them anything. Not even mentioning grandchildren.

South Africa is a beautiful country with beautiful people. Key is understanding cultures and humour, acknowledging differences but also respecting those differences. And not always taking ourselves so seriously, always ready to see the worst in everything. Once we can start laughing at ourselves and tease again without having to be on the defensive 24 x 7, life will be better.

What the ANC and now the DA call racism has nothing to do with racism, it's all about electioneering.

They should be ashamed of themselves. I feel that there's now truly nobody left to vote for, so I'm not even going to bother. Fsck this country!
