lol "soutie" "rooinek" etc. standard fair being the only english guy in the school, being treated different made no sense to me then being a kid.

blame it on my parents for buying a farm in Magaliesburg, but i got my revenge later in life when I didn't speak and pretended to not understand any Afrikaans for my 2 years national service ...

nothing pishes of somebody more than after shouting every kind of memorised swearword etc. at you and then gets asked "excuse me corporal but i dont know what you said" once finished.

Even had Gen. Kat Liebenberg freak out at me ... I just gave him a blank stare ( I saluted him without headgear while carrying my weapon in the wrong hand - was very pissed at the time and it was 2am)

Rubbish. You're just spreading bigotry in the same way your labeled most Nigerians as criminals and con artists.

These are all individual anecdotal reports and yes you get a few of these everywhere but to generalise and say "Racism in Australia?" is crazy.

Still, racism is rife. Research the white emigration policy that I believe was only dropped in the late "70's.

Now the emigration policy is skills related, now you may get the picture.

Still an underlying "lesser" class seeing all these "other ethnicities" getting admitted as Doctors, Engineers, Scientist, etc, things do not change until you have the accent and colour. These attitudes seem to have not change in the 10 years I have not been there.

That said, probably the only country they they had a "connection" to was the SAFAS, strange I know, but of the Septic tanks, Euros, Asian (sub continent & far East), were not treated the same way as I was. Having grown up during apartheid, one can see the subtle differences in acceptance.

So yes, the Ozzies are racist, but usually only from the lesser educated populace.

Only one other nation I have dealt with are more racist, the biggest army anyone?

This is just my experience, but believe me, with the level of education there, not everyone is a racist, far from it, just a smaller part of their population %.

Yes they jest us, but the majority respect us, (as long as we do not take their jobs)

I still have some amazing good honest friends there. Good people, good friends when the chips are down.

So in conclusion, they can be extremely racist, in a small % of the population. But, they are also respectful of new immigrants and the skills they can bring to their economy.

(Something different here if we look back about 12 months to the death and destruction havocked)

Why is it so surprising that racism is not exclusively a South African past time?

The Australians are very outspoken regarding the relationship between the native aboriginal tribes and the colonialists.
There was a huge outcry for the PM to change the Australia day and he flatly refused to apologise or change it. This was done on TV.

You guys do know that at one time the Australian givernment paid people to kill aboriginis (sp?)

The have a pretty bad history when it comes to treatment of the locals.
 
What a big surprise the usual folk defend it ;) :p. They are quite racist and we not even only talking idiot uneducated fools like maleema either, India is the other major education immigrant exporter along with china and when was it.. its barely a yr ago(if that long) where there was a scathing report on racism at universities against their foreign students. And then.. in the news report they ask aussies about it an they like yah it happens.. like someone says quite open about it. The irony or it all.. its a major money maker for them.

The difference between SA and Aus is that unfortunately for the Aboriginies they kinda on a large island(yah i know its a continent), so though their usual.. uhm 'colonialist/later racist' conquest, the locals cant go anywhere and things like the birth control etc was forced upon them.. very much inline with what happen with native Americans. the parallels between the two is actually astonishing in terms of their society, cultural losses etc and then having land issues too. <-- yes they have land redistribution too

Met a aussie here once and he basically told me that is where we went wrong, not doing what they did.

Wtf is your problem? It was in response to a statement another poster made.

Like you said it's a public forum so wtf are you to decide what should be mentioned?
