Racist

Why would you be offended if peoeple said that?

I would be offended because I would intepret what you said to me that you are refering to me as an uneducated, illiterate zulu warrior. It doesn't matter if you meant it as a joke, that's irrelevant, what's important is how your "joke" made me feel and if I find it funny or not. And why would you not feel a little guilty if I don't find the joke funny, doesn't what I think count for something?

And how would you feel if I told a "joke" to you and said "you must go on holiday to Holland and never come back"? Wouldn't that be a bit offensive? If you don't get my point then I guess you don't care much about people's feelings.

I think he's comment was racist plain and simple... Would it have been racist if the cleaner made a comment to him in the lines of: "Nice veld-sokkies u have on there, blerrie boere!"

Thats exactly what he did he said: "Nice spear u have there, blerrie tribal peasant"
Not in those words exactly but thats what it was. Its funny though, hi i'll be racist today by making comments people wont see through because i'm Awesome...... aaaarggggh dammit FAIL!!

Wouldn't be offended at all. I would take it as a joke or just shrug it off. But then again that shows your mentality to our current situation. As DJK said:

That is the problem with this country of ours. If whites say something it's racist. If blacks say something it's freedom of speech.

And by typing that I've just used my human rights numbers 18 and 19.

I wouldn't be offended if a black person said nice rifle.... that was our traditional weapon(?), our money has a spear and knobkierrie on it, get over youself, just tell them you are gay and were refering to his shlong.....

oh wait then he'll sue for sexual harrasment.

Like I said before, I don't think Mudkiepz' comment was racist, but it was a bit offensive. I just think you ar ebeing insensive for saying what you said and I think if you want to tell a joke, make sure people won't be offended.

No no i totally agree with you i would take it as a joke aswell but people have a right NOT to take it as a joke. I would even take it as a joke if you were bluntly racist because i dont care if people are racist it doesnt affect me and i believe people can believe whatever they want even if its racist.

BUT other people may not feel that way and they WILL exercise their right not to be discriminated against... Its in the constitution for crying out loud!

There's two sides to every story Mudkeipz.

Honestly, I would feel offended if you told me "nice spear you got there", and I would complain to the relevant peoeple or person. I, however, don't think that what you said is grounds for dismissal, CCMA is there for a reason. You were extremely insensitive, but I wouldn't say you were being racist or said racist comments, but people are not the same and therefore people interpret things or comments differently.

Let this me a lesson, Mudkiepz. Don't joke with black people.

EDIT: Only joke with people of your own race, gender, political and religious background.

Yip, you're obsessed!!!

He said nothing of the sort - you're Malemafying it...

LoL @ new word..."Malemafication"

-Ma-Leh-Ma-Far-Cation
–verb (used with object)
1. to accuse EVERYONE as racists when no other "logical" reason exists.
2. to be a general dumbass when trying to raise points
3. to make comments that usually have to be retracted publicly.

Origin:
2008 - Named after Malema himself, no other word would suffice describing such

:D

And BTW, why would anyone be offended with a comment such as 'nice spear you got there'. Shouldn't people be proud of their heritage and ancestry? Or perhaps if you said nice assegai, you'd be home free. :D Anyhoo, I'm sure there's much more to this story.

Oke my point is our national symbol has a spear and a knobkierrie, go tell Zuma he is a racist and is offending you.
If you tell me to go to Holland i would correct you by saying I’m from France and if they wanted me i would be there tomorrow, why would i be offended?
Please explain to me why i should be offended by being white? Why should you be offended by your heritage and culture?
I’m not ashamed of ossewaens en voortrekker rokkies, i’m not offended by Jan Van Riebeeck.

Maybe you should stop being ashamed about where you are coming from and be ashamed where you are going.....
Grow up so freaking what if you have a black skin? Mine is white and what now, go be angry at God for that. I had absolutely fuskall to do with that.

We have a few black people busy next door building some kind of a duplex thingy. The one black guy only speaks Afrikaans. We spoke a few times and when we are finished talking I I return to my office then I think to myself, why can't all white and black people just be like that???

Yeah, the constitution really protects me as a white male in this country - I'm free from discrimination, sure...

Look, I don't want to turn this into a mudslinging match at all, but what was said was hardly racist. Making a generalisation based on a person's assumed cultural background is not always defamatory for crying in a bucket. It's akin to someone saying "Nice rifle" if it were a white man. I wouldn't see it as offensive or racist, but rather just immature and stupid.

We have created this generation of people in this country (all races) who see the solution to racism and segregation being to cry foul at every moment possible, and Malemafying every comment made. Well that's just fuelling the fire. Now had the black guy turned around and explained to the boerboel exactly why he found it offensive, it would have opened a dialogue between the two and would have been constructive. Our leaders have done a fine job of showing us exactly how NOT to handle racism, so lets try not to take a leaf out of their book and show them how it should be done.

Personally, I think the OPs not giving the full story here at all. But hypothetically, had that comment been made and that was the be all and end all of the event, then there was a much more effective way to handle this situation. Personally, as a boss, I would have made the 2 of them sit down and discuss between each other (with a mediator of course) why the comment was deemed offensive. That is the only solution - no disciplinary action is needed unless it is a repeat offence and opening up that dialogue with a neutral third party present is more beneficial to everyone involved, the company included...

:(

When will this ever stop? My opinion (freedom of speech) is...never! Too many people abuse their rights and it's contributing towards a sad state of affairs.

Because our leaders tasked with unifying races have in fact done the exact opposite, on a daily basis. They went so far as to specify it in our constitution...
