Radeon 4830 Fan not speeding up.

Ok guys...

So I updated my bios to the latest version along with the latest ATI driver for my card.

The problem is that the games freezes BUT... it does it after a long time... 40 min or so... so at least its not immediate anymore.

Another thing is that when I start a game for the first time after not playing for a while the screen will make stripes across the screen like if you were to hold a cellphone next to it whilst it rang... then the screen goes black and comes back on a couple of times and then its fine...

Now I noticed that my fan on the Radeon doesnt change in speed from Desktop to in game use. I have tried changing it in Catalyst and also with a third party app but even when I change the data to increase the rpm it doesnt do it.

It just stays at the same idle speed.

Does it have enough power? ie. Is all the power sockets connected?

Yes it does.

Everything is connected and im using a 500W PSU

most probably your have the powerplay issue.

what i get on my 4850, randomly some games would go black or vertical stripes over the screen and this is due the fact that the initial batches had a bios bug, which made the fan and powerplay not work correctly.

what you can try is,

• disable power saving in control panel
• flash with a bios that has correct idle speeds (i used msi one from one the links below)
• enable overclock, and increase with 1mhz both core and memory (currently i just have it enabled, and didn't change the speeds at all)
• do the fan thing (here)
