RADEONX300/X550 Series-Problems

Hi All,
I have a RADEONX300/X550 just installed, I have dual monitors which is supported and unable to configure the options of dragging from one screen to the other...Can anyone who has the ATI RADEONX300/550 with dual monitors explain how to configure this option?...At the moment windows dektop is showing on both monitors at the same this is not what I want...Any advise will be appreciated Thanks.......

you might wanna try Omega drivers, I have had better success using the settings with those drivers.
 
Could be ATI, but the Omega drivers don't have the new and improved control center (okay, it's old by now) They haven't been updated in a while if I recall correctly ;)
 
Thanks, I have the latest ATI drivers which is V6.14.10.1005 for PCIE ATI RX300SE but I'm missing the configuration to beable to drag from Monitor 1 -Monitor 2, I'm lost with the configuration at the moment the same desktop display is on both monitors when Monitor 2 should be blank...:confused:
 
In the Windows 'Display Properties' where you see the two little screens labeled 1 & 2 there is a tick box 'Extend the desktop onto this monitor'. Is it ticked when you click on both the screen 1 & 2 icons above?
 
Oh wait X300SE you say? open the case and have a look at the card, are the 2 VGA ports connected with what looks like an IDE cable? If the answer is yes then im sorry you outta luck.
 
Thanks, Yes it sounds like it...I used to have the Nvidia AGP but I upgraded my mobo and only accepts PCI...Nvidia was easy to configure but this one?...Well!...
 
Roman4604...When I check out screen one both ticks are there...When I check out screen 2 there's nothing(No ticks)

So go ahead and tick 'Extend the desktop onto this monitor' on screen 2 and apply.

OK it does look like it so basically I cannot do anything with this card so I need to find something else....Anyone selling?...

OK looks like driver is some how locked in clone mode. Click on Advanced button on Display Properties screen, this should open up the ATI driver control panel.

There should be a Displays tab, there you should see the recognised displays. Besides the on/off switch to enable/disable each display there are 2 icons next to each other that switch each display between clone and extend mode. Choose the 2nd display and click on the non-activated icon (as the clone icon should be selected).

Again apply and when back at the Windows Display Properties try the 'Extend the desktop onto this monitor' tick again.

My old laptop had a 64MB Mobility X300 on it and I could stretch my desktop over 3 displays (laptop's built-in + 2 external LCDs connect to docking station). Since the only difference between the SE and non-SE is that the one has 128bit mem bus while the other has 64bit, I'm pretty confident yours should be able to run an extended desktop spread over 2 monitors.
 
Yo man, try omega drivers...if those dont work then im sorry there is not much you can do. It is a similar problem on the 7000 and 9250se were it doesnt support true dualview
 
I'm afraid there is something deadly wrong here it's not working...I think I should reinstall the drivers....Are you sure we talkijng about the same thing?....I want to be able to drag files from Monitor 1 to monitor 2....At the moment I've got the exact same dektop on both monitors...

I've tried Omega drivers they are very cool but it looks like I've hit a dead end, the only thing now is to remove the ATI drivers completly and reinstall...Maybe I/m going wrong with the installation...The big problem is that when the drivers are installed it does not recognize the monitors by name instead it recognizes them as default monitors...Which is strange because Nvidia recognizes them by name...Could there be a setting in the BiOS?...
 
No setting in the BIOS, if it says default monitor you monitor's drivers aren't installed, or if it is installed and still says it, it's just the way it works.

I'll browse around the ATI support articles and see what I find, give a few minutes ;)
