Johannesburg - Radical changes are set to sweep through South African rugby following the World Cup in France later this year.

According to a report in the Johannesburg Saturday Star newspaper, the first Springbok team of 2008 will consist of at least 10 black and coloured players.

National coach Jake White will also be replaced by the country's first black Springbok coach - Peter de Villiers - and the side is set to be captained by Luke Watson.

So ridiculous - as the south african soccer team is black - yet i dont see anyone jumping to 'fix' that in order to fully represent our country.

It seems it doesn't matter if youre the best at rugby or not, we also dont care about fielding our best team - just as long as the majority of the players are black... then its all good!

In the last game, the soccer team was IMO representative of the population:D

Really, they had Carnell and Fernandes. See making more than 10% of the team is white.

But you dont see white people moaning and blaming every soccer match loss cos there is not enough white players, maybe because soccer in this country is still seen by many as a black sport and there is not enough white players in the sport.

But with rugby a lot of black people dont even WATCH rugby but they still moan about the colour of the players skin and when the boks lose, blame it on the colour of the players skin.
 
If this happens and Luke takes the job he will be the most hated Springbok captain ever. He also did not impress me much yesterday.
 
Rugby is about money and advertising. Look to see what the sponsors are going to say and do and you will have an insight into the future.
 
Sad indeed, I would rather no white players based on merit then just this silly attempt to window dress.

I think his point is that it won't and that once the govt sees revenue dropping things will suddenly change, unless all they care about is milking it while it lasts till they move on to the next cash cow.
 
sox... surely you can agree this is not a wise idea? If you do would you like to travel to the states with me to go tell the American basketball players that they should have more white people and red Indians in the teams? We wouldn't want to be a hypocrite.

.. and while we are on it. By this type of quote system there are to many black people in European soccer... they're all going to have to go as well.

First of all, I thought this was a discussion around national team demographics and whether they are representative or not. I just said contrary to popular belief Bafana Bafana is representative, well almost, they don't have Indian people in the team.

I think the warnings have been there all along and SARU was still unable to meet the agreed upon quota of black players in the starting line-up. As for your mentioning other countries and sports, SA is unique in it's situation.

Unique as in the last world cup where we would stand even a remote chance at doing decent is this year.
