Did you attend ? In what capacity - As a day visitor or BYOC Lan

What were your experiences there.

What did you enjoy about it. Likes and Dislikes - What would you change to improve it .

Needless to say - I too was there, seated on the Mezanine Level, to the right of the ladies(later converted to unisex) :D loo.

Will add some more on my own version of the event.

6.30
I was at the gate , with a group of friends amongst the first few to arrive.
The weather outside was dark and depressing. I was just thinking how we were going to get soaked, before we could even step inside the venue. 10.00 the time they advertised the doors would be opening seemed an eternity away.

Suprise , Surpise!! Sanity prevailed and someone was thoughtful enough to open the doors earlier to let us in. Thank You very much.

We rushed to our preferred seating and being amongst the first in, we were able to secure it comfortably.

We were up and running within minutes. I was hardly settled in yet, when
Panda(ren) started pumping out the port scan warnings (Panda doesn't let anything get past it. Considering I opted to switch back to XP + Panda and install it at 3.30 in the morning, I was delighted. Panda(ren) FTW.

BYOC

I was there primarily to Play and Play some more. The only good thing the expo was there for me , was as a form of distraction.

7 of us got settled in nicely. Then all the other folks started rocking up. We had an interesting mix of characters seated in and around our area.

Big Big Nasty !!!
Listened in on the radio chatter from the guard patrolling our section. There actually was some folks from one of the anti-piracy organisations walking through the lan, enticing gamers with copied games at dirt cheap prices and then springing their trap as soon as you committed. Dunno what happened, but guards was told to look out for these folks and kick their butts out as it was not on what they were doing.

The Expo !!

Sadly this year, there was even less of the Expo than there was the few years before. It seems to be dying off slowly.

Why do folks go to the expo ? To be delighted and enthralled by all the fabulous new gadgets, booth babes (ps. busim comp I loved those ladies) , freebie giveaways and also "Expo Special Prices".

Sadly the "Expo Special Prices" were far and few between, my local pc store could provide me with better pricing on some of the stuff that they declared "Expo Special Prices".

Freebies - Thanks for all the mousepads.

tbc.

Was there, most disappointing one yet. The Wii was cool though.

And the amount of games on show was very disappointing.

Some interesting stands and overall quite active and enjoyable. I was there only for the expo but managed to see my old friends participating in the LAN events. First time I have been to Rage so I cant compare.

I bought a new case too :D

My one complaint though is that most of the stands had absolutely no service and most of the items that appeared to be on sale rather than for display did not have prices and were not marked as such leaving you with no-one to ask and no way to find out. That got me a bit upset as i saw a really nice DDR Kit that I wanted and could not ask about :(

Went as BYOC part of the WrG clan, the Battlefield battles were exxxxxtreme to say the least, and I think there was a lot of camaraderie in the battlefield section.

Bleugh:
I think that a central point where peeps could invite other peeps to do stuff was missing.
And the noise from the stupid car-game and the even lamer sound place was annoying as heck.
And the announcements were also bothersome.
And the peeps using speakers instead of headphones was also annoying.
We lost power once to half our row, only once, but it was enough to bugger up one pc.
No internet connection to authenticate online accounts with .. this is a sore point, next year, if there is none, i'm not going.
They did not even bother to mark off the battlefield section, resulting in some non battlefield peeps being forced to relocate after they had setup.

Positive:
Security was reasonable, I did get stopped every time I tried to sneak out with equipment, except that a friend in front of me did not once, hence the "reasonable" and not "good".
The peeps there, nobody was full of sheet, ebberybodee was friendly.
The network was 100%.
The pizza's were okay, not brilliant, but reasonable ... i mean .. R45 for a small pizza is normal right?
The water was reasonably priced, i mean R9 for 500ml is a good price hey?

It was okay for a battlefield competition, but as an overall LANNING experience, it needs help.

The network was 100%

I know a section of people that went to go complain to admins about the network as a result of spikes everyone was getting in that area of the setup.

And security was reasonable yes :) some guy was being stopped in front of me so I just walked around them to get into the LAN section and managed to get in :D but what the heck my good mates from Durbs who were inside I haven't seen for a long time. Oh and erm....I got a free drink from the Play (energy drinks) desk promotion after I snuck in and pretended I was one of the LAN people :p ha ha

it was good, i mean i found my friends with in 5 minutes, but they could have said exactly where the dam lan was...

It was fun, and the lan was cool... BUT i can't play games as the but monkeys always left, grrr

Was there the expo was better then last year. But the dota's there sucked i played like 5 games all week:(All the other games some1 quited or droped:/The network was very unstable for some reason. And even more weird it was only in dota:/ But the dc++ servers there owned:rolleyes:

Could have done without the scruffy smelly teenage who decided to plonk himself down at our clans section (BF2 was arranged seating)..

Had some network issues (IP's being used by said scruffy leecher ****), but the BF2 comp was admined well, any issues were addressed right away.

Stoke, why the problem with not playing with unlocks? makes it more fun as no n00b g36e's ruining it ;)

Biggest problem was on Saturday night trying to get some practice in on BF2 the only populated servers were full of annoying little ****ers who thought it was amusing to TK everyone in sight (a little taste of how the SGS servers may be if the ROE wasn't in place)

Aside from over priced food and drink it was fun. Picked up a few trojans, but that was my fault for leaving a folder shared by accident. I think that possibly having leechers on a seperate network would be good for the gamers, but then that would condone their scruffiness....

I walked in, mulled aruond and took a look at a few things, for some strange reason walked into CNA, saw an Xbox, bought and then left. I basically went to see the Wii stall...

Yeah, like me.

What online activation are you talking about? Counterstrike? There are cracked versions of CS available for LAN play.

No, it's the BF2 unlocks that needs a connection to EA's server.

I'm considering going this year
