So, I know a lot of you will be going...

What steps are you taking to secure your PC from haxors and viruses? Also, being my first time (yes, I am a rage virgin!) what PHYSICAL security do you need to ensure your stuff doesn't go walkies?

hmm I would also like to know since this will also be my first time.

afaik you can't take PC's out during certain times - when it is in, it is in. *AFAIK*

PS: Also you can't take huge monitors or Systems with Watercooling, *AFAIK*

I've never lanned at rage before, it's too expensive - but i've heard about these rules....

jip, those are the rules. Friday you can take in and remove PC's between 10:00 and 22:00 - Friday, and 08:00 and 22:00 Saturday, 08:00 and 15:00 Sunday.

They give you an ID card and stickers for all your stuff (mouse, headphones etc.)

There has to be a matching ID card for the stickered things to go out. It is generally pretty safe. Left my stuff on Fri night, came back Sat afternoon, nothing was touched. No speakers or screens bigger than 23". Booze is outside on a closed off ramp. Food inside is junk. Just take a walk to NorthGate for Spur/Steers, or walk 200m down the road for Nandos or KFC.

Oh, and unshare all your files/folders, get an updated Anti-virus. AVG free will do. Firewalls are not needed. Most people use DC++ for file sharing/copying. (Share at least 10gigs of anime/patches or whatever to fit DC++ join requierments. DO NOT SHARE WITH WINDOWS. Share INSIDE of DC++)

Thats pretty much it. Its great fun. Check you oaks there

and you should have a legal copy of windows, right? there is a Microsoft presence isn't there?

no

for food there is a mcdonalds about 200m away. then there is northgate mall with restaurants, theres another smaller centre about 1km away with romans pizza and few other fast food places. Inside its safe to leave your pc but dont leave your cellphone and stuff like that lying around if your not there. i also like to put my headphones away in my bag. leeching last year was mostly done on dc++ but u can still share stuff through windows if you wont, quite alot of people still do. and think the dc++ share is 50gb or more

went to the 2008 one but not last year.... how was the babe situation looking? In '08 there was a few yummy ones walking around... besides the booth babes who were obviously hot

Firewalls are not needed.

One of those basic requirements as you still find those okes that disregard the rules - they still use port scanning tools.

Excellent anti-virus program also important.

You don't want to be re-installing when you have had a monster virus hit - it happens in a massive orgy of pc's like that - I have seen it happen time and again at past rage gatherings.

Rules #(more to follow)

Make certain you go and get your ticket as soon as they become available. ( last year sold out in 3-4 days) previously in under a week.

Im sure you can take bigger screens because there's more than enough space on the table :)

Anything goes in terms of system specifications and size.

an oke came with a 32" bravia one year, no hassles, so you can bring your 24-30"

I have seen a Mozart TX (I've owned one it's huge) go, no problem.

Only thing is no additional plug / power points can be used. so just the 2 - 1 for your monitor and the other for the actual pc and that's it.

So if your system can run just on that then it's good to go, also as long as there's enough space on the table for 2
