RAID question

That is a very broad statement. I could also say, RAID is nice cause I can remove my hard drive and take it to my friends with out turning my PC out.

There are probably close on 10 difference types of RAID all have their advantages and disadvantages. RAID 0 Stripping for home use doesn't have to many positives though I am afraid

RAID 0 is blerry fast becuase it's writing data across 2 disks as 1 virtual. RAID 1 is mirrored and a lot slower as it has to write the data twice.

Mirroring will definately be slower yes... But I must confess, I'm also using striping at home (I have my reasons), and I too, saw a vast improovement in disk *READING*. Writing to a stripe is still about the same speed - if not a bit slower... The bummer of software striping obviously is also that it uses additional CPU. Copying a 700MB avi on a stripe will eat CPU like mad untill the copy is done.

I agree with your statement on the mirror being slower. I still fail to see the benifits of RAID 0 on a home PC. There may be certain programs which will be faster but as a whole the pro's don't come close to the cons
