Hi,

I've received a message saying I can upgrade to 5G Standard, for R100pm more, changing my speed limit from 25mbs to 50mbs.

My question is, will this also double my upload speed? This is more critical to me than download speed, due to working from home (VPN), light online gaming, etc.

Thanks.

the upload is normally not capped. If its a permanent R100 extra then go for it.

@Raxi What is your currrent upload speed? If it's below say 20 or 10Mbps then it may not improve unless move modem around finding better signal.

@Gtx Gaming link is best to test as this will give you an idea what to expect.

On the link from @Gtx Gaming, my upload speed ranges between 4-7mbps. I'll try moving my router around. Signal hops between 4 and 5 bars at the current spot.

Thanks all.

I doubt it. Rain has never prioritised upload speed. Chances are your current 4-7mbps are not due to any throttling, just the best it can manage.

It looks like there are a lot of factors at play here. The above tests were all done at the same window, over a LAN cable, while on VPN, in the middle of the day. I moved the router this morning and did a test over WiFi, no VPN, with better results. I'll start playing with these factors one by one.

5G generally don't have great upload unless you make a nest inside the tower like birds.
The further away you are, the more drastic it drops. Changing packages won't change this fact.

MTN 5G seems to limit to about 80 Mbps upload if you're very close, and then drops exceptionally the further away you move. Rain would be the same.

As others pointed out, Rain does not limit upload.
