Rain and storm for Cpt

The storm is not over! I just sent a message to a weather friend about how mild it was in Kenilworth this afternoon. A few minutes later there was a sudden downpour, with sleet visible!

Edit: The tip of the main front should just be reaching @Mortymoose in the desert by now.

We are now entering the post-frontal period, where precipitation is dominated by thundershowers.

I for one be very unimpressed......... :cautious:

Where's the rain.....? The wind pumped so hard between 11H00- 15H00 that as the rain fell it got blown away...... it turned into a drizzle ...... Man! Am I down....... I was soooooo loooking forward to walking home and avoiding puddles and admiring how all the dusty tree's had been washed.....

Right now, No water from the heavens and overcast, wind decreasing........... Weather report says my rain is over....

This just sucks! :crying:

Just had some hail in Saldanha. Wind was bad this morning. A few houses lost some tiles.
 
Fark me. R11,000 damage from the storm today. I hope insurance covers all of it. The wind smashed my patio french door into the wall so hard that the wood split down the middle and the door came flying off.

187mm of rain in Jonkershoek Yesterday + 44mm the previous day. VERY good news for Theewaterskloof dam. :)

And it's not over yet, looks like a big cold front is coming in next week Monday/Tuesday, as always it's just a prediction at this point, but I hope it does develop into a strong cold front.

Very impressive rainfall figures indeed! To give some perspective, the annual average for Dwarsberg is about 3000mm, so in one day it received 6% of the annual average (a week's worth of rain!) No wonder the level of the Berg River Dam jumped by 5% in 6 hours, and is now overflowing...

Edit: Highest include Ceres 100mm, Worcester 48mm, Langgewens 38mm, Paarl 34mm, Franschhoek 31mm, Swellendam 31mm, Robertson 28mm, Jonkershoek 27mm, etc. Also of note were Springbok (NC) 25mm, Calvinia (NC) 19mm, Garies (NC) 19mm, etc. The showery rain yesterday was much more widespread than the first frontal rain on Monday night.

Edit: The average of all big 6 dam levels has risen 5.5% in the last two days (Wed 24th), from 64.1% to 69.6% in total. Almost all of the dams did well, except Voelvlei which is further north, and fed by a canal (not a river). Theewaterskloof has reached 60%, which is very welcome!

There will definitely be a significant cold-front on Mon 29th, but it is unlikely to produce quite as much rain.

CoCT just updated the dam levels, Theewaterskloof at 60% :eek: Great stuff, and there's definitely still a lot of inflow to the dam, can't wait to see what it's going to be by Friday.

Storage % for Cape Town dams is currently 69.6%. Fantastic!

Theewaterskloof got a huge 6.4% bump in 2 days!
