no drain in backyeard. and to get to front yard i have to break a concrete slab up to make a drainage pipe.
And my slope is from front to back.
My backyard is also the lowest between my neighbours and the only one with grass. So yeah, everything is against me.

You don't connect it to anything, it's basically a cube of earth that you take out at the lowest point and fill it with large stones, when it rains it fills up and seeps away.

Works until the ground gets saturated and then what?
 
All this rain is hammering the roads, in the last few days I've noticed holes have opened up all over the place. The roads dept is going to be very busy repairing it all.

The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment weather station (Jonkershoek) recorded a phenomenal 100mm up to midnight yesterday (Wed 2nd). It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on runoff into the dams...

Deathly quiet, not a breath of wind in the aftermath.. only the distant sounds of frogs croaking in ecstatic delight.

Same here. Whoever repairs the roads close to us is very efficient - they are out very soon to repair potholes. But the same holes have opened up again, and some more. Roads taking a battering, it seems.
