Pretty much the same pricing ideas.

I've moved to using more rainwater around the house, but I still need municipal water for some applications.

South Africa does not have a Doppler radar system. It was discussed early in the 2000s, but the project never went any further. What we have is a mix of S-band (old) and C-band static radars, centered on the major airports.

P.S. Post in the Gauteng thread, Cape Town hardly ever gets thunderstorms...

I see this news article from 2010 talks about the weather service upgrading to from C-band to S-band. S-band being doppler radar... They already had 2 S-band radar installations at the time, and 10 C-band. Interesting read non-the-less.

Difference is Eskom got themselves into their current situation purely through their own behaviour. And they've really done nothing at all to rectify the situation for at least a decade.

Not much rain here in S Subs away from TM....blustery weather and odd rain showers overnight but far less intense than was predicted via my astro weather apps, ClearOutside, MeteoBlue, etc

We had 8.5mm in Kenilworth during the early hours of this morning (Sun 13th). This is definitely a low precipitation event, with more wind and cold, but only intermittent showers for the next 24-36 hours.

Edit: The SAWS reports widespread light rain up to 8am this morning: https://www.weathersa.co.za/images/data/climate/nr_daily_rai.pdf
Highest include Kirstenbosch 14mm, Ceres 13mm, Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 9mm, Tulbagh 8mm, Strand 7mm, etc. Also of note were Nieuwoudtville (NC) 4mm, etc.

Update: It was dry for most of the day, but heavy rain in the afternoon brought a total of 15.5mm in our gauge in Kenilworth.

Update #2: The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment (Jonkershoek) recorded 41mm up to midnight. Temperatures are low enough for a dusting of snow on the highest mountain peaks this morning (Mon 14th).

The radars are old, I don't even bother looking at the one around Cape Town as there is often lots of interference from the terrain etc...

The Johannesburg radar is much more interesting to look at during thunderstorm season however :)

Below is Cape Town's radar with the associated interference, not really that helpful.

Highest include Kirstenbosch 23mm, Villiersdorp 21mm, Ceres 16mm, Paarl 14mm, Strand 12mm, Wellington 12mm, Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 11mm, Tulbagh 10mm, etc. The cumulative 36-48 hour totals for areas near the mountains were quite impressive.

I wonder what happened to the Bellville Gholfclub station, haven't seen it listed on those reports for months now and it was pretty much the only one in the Northern Suburbs (or am I wrong?).
