Rain and storm for Cpt

Hanover district karoo. Farm has now measured 63 mm in 48 hours. That is the sort of rain that CT needs.
And it is raining again this evening

Rainfall in Cape Town summers is always tantalising and frustrating, seldom amounts to anything substantial, and has zero effect on the dam levels, due to low soild moisture content...

P.S. If I was a moderator, I would have locked this thread at the end of October, and reopen it again in April.

If only there was a way to channel all this rain to CTN. They need it more than the highveld does.

The Cape Town thread was started much later, so less time for comments.

Storms in Cape Town are much less dramatic (when they do happen), than those in Gauteng, which have lightning, hail, and flash flooding.

Cape Town is still in drought, so there have been very few events to discuss.

I am going to stick my neck out. Just had a report of exceptionally heavy rain and hail in the Hanover district. There is plenty of moisture moving down from the tropics. All it needs is for cyclone cebile to change direction and move towards the African coast and that moisture is going to push further west. Next 8 to 10 days is going to be interesting.

Sorry, none of my charts show anything close to Cape Town. That's not really how forecasts work...

There is no rain forecast for Cape Town in the next 10 days.
 
I heard there was some rain over Theewaterskloof during the week. I'm guessing it's bullschit. Anyone have any info?

The first significant rains in Cape Town usually start after Easter, sometime in April or May. Until then this thread is pretty much redundant. Lots of false-alarms, near-misses, and rumours...

Unless you count the few drops of rain on Tuesday, which just rearranged the dirt on my car...
