Gardens/CPT - had a wee bit earlier, looking more ominous now.

*** - took its time, but decent rain during the early morning :)

Scary that the weather station can have it THIS wrong.

No, "wrong" is the wrong word ..:) The models access basic data, run their algorithms and then draw conclusions which they call "forecasts". Sometimes these are accurate and at other times not so accurate. That is all.
The TV channels take the data and then dramatise it and report on it. Some channels tend to use very old data runs and others try to be more up to date. If you just look at their pictures without listening to what they say, you also get the wrong idea.

Wasn't there a rain forecast today? I'm in Tygervalley and is bone dry here... cold but no rain.

Been awesome rain today (at least my neck of the woods). More hopeful however of this bitterly cold weather dropping some snow on the mountains, resulting in some run off into the dams...

49mm recorded yesterday on SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment site.

Berg River dam level increased by 0.5% overnight. Not a lot of runoff, due to low soil moisture from the lack of recent rain.

Light snow visible on the Sutherland webcams.

Matroosberg tweeted this morning they have snow as low as reception this morning.

SAWS reports good rainfall in a few places during the 24 hours to 8am on Tues 7th: http://www.weathersa.co.za/media/data/climate/nr_daily_rai.pdf

Highest include Kirstenbosch 47mm, Grabouw 43mm, Ceres 39mm, Jonkershoek 35mm, Cape Point 27mm, Strand 24mm, etc. Also of note was Nieuwoudtville (NC) 16mm.

Edit: Very minor increase in dam levels overnight, from 56.9% to 57.2%: http://www.capetown.gov.za/Family a...and-sanitation-services/this-weeks-dam-levels

The next few days look dry (but cold). The outlook for rain seems favourable overnight on Sat 11th into Sun 12th, though it is difficult to predict the likely amounts (20-30mm is possible in places).

I measured 25 mm here in Brackenfell this morning as at 07:00 with my home made tipping bucket gauge.

Light rain in Constantia now. Wasn't expecting it, certainly there was no predicted rain from the yr.no website.

Anyone else have rain?

A few drops of rain, its a Black South Easter today, much wetter along the Eastern Cape coast...

My cousin says her brother in Port Elizabeth recorded 25mm overnight. Very welcome rain in that drought stricken area!

Edit: Predicted rainfall for the next 72 hours, including a cold-front for CT on Sun 12th:

If you think it is cold in CT, consider this: -12 last night on a farm in the Hanover district, with maximum temp today of 6 degree C.
