The cumulative total for the SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment site was 45mm + 22mm or 67mm (measured up to midnight, not 8am like SAWS). The Berg River dam is certainly part of the CoCT water supply (which is why I posted that comment yesterday), and is likely to go up by 1-2% this week.

The heavy rains that Geoff.D talks about are over the interior & E-coast, which should be the subject for another thread: N&E-Cape also have severe drought conditions.
 
It is becoming increasingly difficult to hold a debate about weather when it is chopped up between a number of different threads. Especially during seasonal changes. Had the confluence of 3 systems as we are seeing at the moment occurred over the cape town catchment areas it would fit here. However because these systems very often move faster than predicted a debate starts over CT and then moves.

I agree, but am not sure how weather threads fit into the News and Current Affairs forum!? Who started this discussion anyway?

how is this not news, or a current affair?? rather important too.

sweep it under the rug rather or what?
 
Maybe we can ask for another forum to be created with sub forums for the various regions in the country? There are 6 "weather zones" as far as I know.
 
There is another cut off low forming over the Cape. Together with a fairly weak front on the way. Low probability of rainfall?
 
A late-season cold-front will bring 10-20mm of rain over the SW-Cape on Sun 15th (always more over the mountains), along with rather cold conditions, and light snow over the high ground.
 
There are 2 fronts, one that moves later tonight early tomorrow that moves very quickly round the coast, and the more substantial one on Sunday. Both have a high pressure ridge behind them. And the low pressure area extending done the west coast of Africa is still very much in place. Very interesting weather patterns!

The same pattern that led to last weeks rains is again present.
The low stretching down the west coast.
A cut off low south of the country.
A front moving in from the south.
A high pressure ridge forming behind the low.
 
The first of a series of cold-fronts will arrive over CT this evening (Sat 14th) and persist through Sun 15th into Mon 16th. The weather will remain unsettled, with further moderate intensity fronts expected during the middle of next week (Wed 18th to Fri 20th). Rather cold conditions will prevail, with snow likely over the highest mountain peaks in the SW-Cape by Mon 16th.

The exact rainfall amounts are hard to predict, but cumulative totals for the week in the range 20-40mm are possible. Falls over the mountain catchment areas could be somewhat higher. Rain over the rest of the country is likely to be limited.

The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment site has recorded approximately 30mm in the last 12 hours (up to midday on Sun 15th). Certainly welcome, but will only have limited inflow effects IMO (mostly Berg River dam).

Rain has stopped for the moment. More cold fronts are due on Mon 16th, and Wed 18th.

Some waterfalls on the eastern side of Table Mountain. Will definitely have helped with the 12 Apostles fire.
