Rain and storm for Cpt

It's coming down hard in Stellenbosch now. Sitting it out a bit as I will get soaking wet walking home in this rain now.

I see the final figure for yesterday taken at midnight were about the same as the midday figures.
That front expected to arrive on the 18th looks as if it is going to bring heavier downpours than this one.

Interesting comment from the weather guy on SABC 2 this morning about the number of fronts still making landfall in the Cape. Sort of hinted that their prediction for a wetter than normal Spring were a bit out and maybe it should have been for a wetter than normal Summer?

The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment site (near Jonkershoek) recorded 33mm during yesterday morning (definitely more than we had here). Overall 115mm this week! This should definitely help the Berg River dam inflows...

That is one of the better week for a long time. Really going to be interesting to see what the weekly pdf report CT releases next week Tuesday says!

Not much rain is predicted for Cape Town this week, but a well developed cold-front will bring rain, very cold conditions, and snow to the Eastern Cape and Drakensberg mountains by Thurs 26th and Fri 27th respectively:

A lot more rain than I expected this morning (orographic effects). 20mm in our gauge in Kenilworth, CT up to 10am this morning! Not so much rain further away from the mountains though...

Based increased capacity and currently daily consumption, last week's inflows would postpone 'zero-day' for the dams by another 2 weeks.

So annoying. The sky is leaden and gray today, like I haven't seen in ages. But you think it's raining? Apart from a spit and a spot this morning, it has remained bone dry.

C'mon clouds! Dump your load all over me!!

No meanigfull rainfall forecasts for the next few days. Current rain comes from a low pressure area extending down the west coast with very little prospects of weather fronts from the south.
There is a rather persistent high ridging in over the southern parts of the country.
 
There was a surprise rain shower out of nowhere at 2.30am in Kenilworth, Cape Town (Thurs 2nd). I jumped out of bed to check that it really was rain and not wind. Actually the NW wind was blowing too!

A flash was observed from the NW direction, and thunderstorms are moving down from the west coast. Its magic lying back watching the walls illuminated by lightning, and listening to distant rumbles of thunder. (Waxing poetic for a bit...)

Rain was predicted by some models but not others, so its all very weird by CT standards!?
