Rain and storm for Cpt

The SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment station is recording phenomenal amounts of rain. About 10mm/hr from midday onwards (Sun 24th), reaching a peak close to 20mm/hr between 8pm and midnight, (cumulative total of 160mm). With another 18mm between 1am and 2am (Mon 25th) this is clearly an epic rain event...

About 35mm in our gauge in Kenilworth overnight. I don't expect any substantive numbers here, since our gauge is positioned to catch rain from the west (not the south), and the orographic effects are different on this side of the mountain during a cutoff-low.

okay it stopped raining, I'm guessing that's the silence before it gets worse

I'm meant to be flying in a few hours... not looking forward to take off or landing for that matter lol.

We were at Cape Point yesterday. That was an experience. I've never felt more close to being knocked off my feet by wind as I did up at the lighthouse.

Holy sheet, this weather is kak! While I appreciate having an abode, you niggas staying in houses better appreciate it. Living in a shack is...daunting :D

I'm in Citrusdal with the wife and need to drive back to Cape Town today (around 11am). Thoughts on if this is safe?

It's no wonder the Voortrekkers left you wimps behind. Some damp and a bit of a breeze and you okes fold like a damp dishcloth.

 :p

Are they still busy with road works on the N7 near Malmesbury? Went through there in July at night at it wasn't fun. I would absolutely avoid that area.
Via Porterville/Wellington is maybe an option or the West Coast road. But these winds are hectic. Maybe there is less wind near the west coast?
