Overberg Municipality has just announced (2 minutes ago) that the Palmiet bridge is now open for vehicles. Will be stop/go as only one lane is open over the bridge.
 
Reports from residents currently at the bridge is that the contractor is saying it may take up to 3 hours for the "gates" to open for traffic.
 
Poor guys in McGregor.
They still can't get to Robertson due to no bridge and their refuse cannot be collected.

The one farm apparently adopted a pig that was washed down the river.

Not sure of the recent posts on this page as I’m overseas at the moment, but Hermanus has no water and is expected to be without for 3 to 4 weeks according to the municipality message today. Consequently this weekend whale festival has been cancelled.

The whole town has zero water in the pipes and that is set to continue for 3-4weeks?!

Problem with Hermanus water is a 56m length of pipe that washed away. Apparently reaching to repair it is difficult because of a bridge that has washed away so reaching the area is difficult. Some people in some areas are now thankfully getting very brown water, which at least can be used to flush the toilets, but the time scale is still 3 to 4 weeks before back to “normal”.
