That's probably water from the boreholes which is used to supplement the De Bos dam.

that was at the last intersection before the pass (N2 outgoing), the turnoff to sir lowry's pass village

branches were being put down as I drove through, wasn't lit yet. what is f-ing pathetic and infuriating is the cops were on the scene and stood and watched ...

and it wasn't some scary mob that did it, it was f-ing kids!

The front seems to have already passed in the early hours of this morning (Sat 30th). About 5-10mm in places (more close to the mountains). It has been mostly dry since dawn, but clouds are lingering. It should clear later in the day, but remain rather cool. No significant rain is predicted in the foreseeable future.

Edit: 19mm in my cousin's rain gauge in Rondebosch (definitely more than I expected).

Kuilsriver has been wet since the early morning hours and we currently have steady downpour going..

Patience. The wind has dropped, and it's a slow moving system. Definitely drier on the western side of the Cape Peninsula.

Edit: LOL, not quite over yet, another shower here in Rondebosch...

Edit: Large waterfalls on the eastern slopes of Table Mt!

Edit: Sun is out in Rondebosch at 12 noon. Cousin's solar panels are pushing out 4kW+...

Edit: 8mm in our gauge in Kenilworth (not sure why such a difference).

The SAWS monthly rainfall data for September 2023 show sporadic heavy falls over parts of the Western Cape. See: https://www.weathersa.co.za/images/data/climate/nr_month_rai.pdf

Of note were:
Jonkershoek 296mm (average 90mm, 328% of average), Kirstenbosch 262mm (average 147mm, 178% of average), Wellington 127mm (average 66mm, 192% of average), etc.

Many places do not have long term averages, but did have impressive totals:
Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 217mm, Elim 204mm, Paarl 197mm, Bellville 164mm, Stormsrivier (EC) 143mm, SAAO Observatory 135mm, Hermanus 134mm, Nieuwoudtville (NC) 107mm, etc.

The majority of the rain fell in the last week of the month, as can be seen for the 10 days up to 1 Oct: https://www.weathersa.co.za/images/data/climate/nr_10day_rai.pdf
Not shown above (10 days) was Stellenbosch 227mm.
