Thought I would give you guys an update here, I got my line changed over to G.DMT and it worked amazingly for 2-3 weeks, 13.5dB of downstream attenuation, full 1024 MBit/s sync and mostly 1 meg download speed and I was happy.

Last week we all know there was the rain, and hail and ice etc. in the East Rand area and my line just died(would use more crude words but not sure if that is allowed), now syncing at around 800Kbps and download speed is sitting around 14 Kbps(that is bits) with 4-6 dB of SNR(that is pathetic). Obviously the issue is a flooded part of the copper or some damaged part of wire from the weather, obviously I cannot be the only one with this problem and obviously I have logged faults with AH and they have logged faults with Telkom and obviously nothing has happened after a week.

I would now like to know from you guys what would be the correct course of action here, I am pretty much sick of getting issues and them blaming it on the lenght/age of copper(that is a problem with their service, they should be implementing FTTx if the copper was that long and should have replaced the copper if it is that old(and should I mention it has been stole a few times recently? Do they find the thieves and install the same old copper again?)

If someone has the contact details for high level management that would be a great help, because I have an AH managed line I cannot even send Telkom a summons for breach of contract(and there is ground for that) since AH would have to do that.

A link to my previous post is http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/472066-ADSL2-vs-G-CMT?highlight= so that you guys have an understanding of my line history.

My situation is almost identical to yours, just got off the phone from someone from Telkom (they said someone had come out twice and found no problem, the usual lie) I've contacted my ISP (mweb) who sent a fault request, and I too sent a fault request, hopefully the issue will be resolved, line stats 25db attenuation 30SNR now at 4SNR. Time frame was after the SAIX issue the exchange I'm connected to went down over the weekend and came back up rubbish

Hi There,
First step is listen on the line for any crackling sound. If there is any report a voice fault. Do not mention that you have ADSL. Emphasise that it is only since the rain last week.
Secondly if it is not fixed report it again.

With an aging infrastructure which may be partially Telkom's fault but only partially you can expect faults. Given the amount of infrastructure development going on at the moment I am surprised there are not more faults. I have seen people digging in areas where there clearly are cables with trench digging equipment. All it needs is a little nick in the cable and in goes the rain and down goes your line.

Regards

Tim

Yea that's what I did, phone is barely usable so its def a physical issue, however what is really strange is that when the router attempts to sync you can hear it over the phone, no matter which phone I use, no matter which filter :wtf:
