Since Rain made their clever sounding moves a week or so ago, the connection is like a fox terrier on tik.
Seriously.
For about a year speeds were nice just under or just over the 30Mbps I contracted with them.
Note: Consistent and fast with very little fluctuation. With the outdoor router nice and secure outside on the wall of the stoep. Same place all the time.
Then they did their SA NSA or whatever and the rubbish started.
Speed vary between dead or under 2Mbps to 90 Mbps (yes, ninety) and I pay for 30.
Then suddenly at times - dead. No internet. But the signal strength on the router website is still a solid 3 bars.
Then it revives round, say 2.
Then suddenly up to 60 or sometimes 90.
Then crash again.
So I complain here, on twitter, on FB and on their website.
Eventually some of these people answer.
I hook onto a friendly person via phone.
I explain. Nothing in my setup changed. Speed and signal was great and solid and fast till Rain did their SA whatever changes.
Then fluctuations like crazy and dead times. This week it tended to be dead or slow like sheet (under 1) late afternoon/early evening. The Netflix hour?
I send readings. I send screen grabs. OK, so here come the solution: "I want you to log on to the website and move the router around to find the best place......"

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

It's not the placing of the router. You may notice I get speeds of up to 90 at times?
And like I told you before you got SA NSA or whatever clever it was consistent and at 30?
Can I repeat that the router has NOT changed position after I set it up by moving it around MONTHS AGO???

...er...ahem... er... will escalate it to the engineers.
P.S. IT was escalated to them about a week ago. But pls do it again.
All I can say is: Vumatel you bloody biscuit of a rubbish trash. You stopped a few streets away with farkin fibre!!!!!!!!!!

4IR? Ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!

For those with fibre that want to giggle at us Rain suckers, my speeds tests this afternoon (on the Rain website I did the tests):

Hi @Yskasmetnstoof please check for me on your router are you currently running on the SA network mode?
because that's what you need to be operating on ever since the change if you require assistance with actually making the change and setting it up then please PM me with your email address so that I can assist you further.

I feel for everyone who has no other choice than Rain, I really do, but man these complaint threads are getting a bit tiresome o_O

went through this frustrating experience a few times,
just learned to live with it, complaining wont help, tried it a few times, you get what you pay for.

imagine during lockdown, I had to go sit right next to the tower to have a reliable Zoom call,

Hey the truth needs to be out there - and if 90% of the people has issues - let the truth be out there, it might help some people not make the mistake we made .....
Like already said - you can tell from the title if this is going to be a happy Kumbaya threat or not - don't open them.

Seems there is far fewer happy threads - so start one of those and stay there.

So Rain congestion, is it their network as a whole or just specific to overloaded towers?

Mostly towers, but a little bit of the backend thanks to the lockdown / gradual increase of subscribers. The tower I pick up far away averaged 70mbps before 2020 and 40-50mbps for most of this year, with frequently dropping connections hence the network (non)robustness.

Only some towers, if your tower has 2600mhz band working, then you normally have good experience if you can connect on the 2600mhz band.

this, also some towers get super congested and slow during the day when everybody using them,
but then super fast at night from midnight till about 8AM.

@rain_mobile filter every "Network Congestion" messages & do nothing about it.

I feel bad after recommending Rain to my 2 cousin and my uncle they can't barely stream Netflix. HORRIBLE SPEEDS
