Ah. You are in Joburg. East London not so much luckilyness. Let me go and have a walk on the beach and see if it comes back

Since they did whatever maintenance just before the end of the month last month, I've had annoying disconnects to this afternoon totally dropping out completely. Coupled with the ridiculous and worsening shaping... I'm a bit fed up.

Rain Fixed Wireless down in Akasia since 16:30. Connected but no Internet. Afrihost just not giving any answers that are usefull. Fed up with the unreliable service. Any suggestions for alternative LOS services. This is happening often now.

On Rain mobile right now I'm getting 700 ping, 0.4 down, 7 up.

Connected but no Internet in KZN South Coast too.
Akasia Pretoria North back on. Ob obviously Rain did nothing until this morning to fix. Pathetic service. They must compensate us financialy as we had to use more expensive connections while they just enjoyed the weekend. At this rate Rain is going to lose customers.

I'm in Pretoria East and my rain connection hasn't been working for at least 2 weeks now.

RAIN has ****ed up. This what I send Afrihost
What the hell have you done. Using IP's outside South Africa. This is sabbotage. Now all connection like DSTV is blocked. Rain are morons. They obviously forgot to do the regulatory stuff. Fix or quit and reimburse.

Can we get US Netflix now ;)

Now after rebooting total loss of connectivity. This is what I told them. Rather close down and make way for more reliabke services
You are in total mess of moronity. Rebooted due to foreign IP. Now no service again. Sorry but jou shall have to answer to ICASA and if not complaint lose your license.

Mine is still down. 24 hours. Emailed customer support and they reckon I should change the apn to rain and it should work. . I have no words.

I switch my router off during the day and quite often when I boot it up when I get home, I'll have connectivity, but no internet (all the lights are green but no internet). Usually another reboot will resolve this, but lately it hasn't immediately. I have to repeat this a few times then it usually comes right which is annoying. I've always set my router to use 2600 (I get better speeds), and what I've discovered last night is that if I change it to use ALL bands when I get this connectivity issue after a reboot, I get connectivity again. After that I can switch to 2600 without any further issues, or at least until I get home and start the router up. FYI I do this to avoid being a victim of a power spike AGAIN.

Some time ago somebody posted a .bat file that allows you to change your bands on the router without having to log into it. It works like a bomb. RAIN has dropped the ball.

Perhaps playing with the bands offer a solution, use it don't use it :)

EDIT: I have found the original post (below) https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/do-you-see-4g-or-4g-with-rain.920902/

http://2share.co.za/Files/Windows.zip

Unzip that. I'm assuming you have a windows pc.

Edit huawei_band_tool_config.txt with the correct username, password and router ip address.

Run this one LTE_2600_TDD.bat

That will force the router to the 2600MHz band only. LTE_1800.bat for 1800MHz band only these are the 2 bands Rain support. See which one give you the best speed.

Run LTE_ALL.bat if you decide to activate all bands again.
