Rain is SLOW!

This is my speed test now at 5AM but things go downhill from 8AM and browsing will be non-responsive.

Not bad.
Mine's been slow again since 1am this morning.. I woke up at 4am hoping I'd be able to do some work while when it's "fast".... surpriseeeee

I guess today is gonna be a longggg day.

What are you using to track speed? That last screenshot...

Something I built myself a few months ago and put onto a little linux server https://www.rainspeedtest.co.za/.... currently load-balancing between MTN and Rain, so stopped the speedtests.. I am however building a cross-platform desktop version of this in my free time. :)

If anyone is still looking to make their Rain 4G LTE download speeds better check out this video:

I live in Hermanus. Got the R250 per month (19 hours) package sim with a new Huawei LTE router
Got download speeds of around 1,00 to 1,20 mbps downloads

Then I installed a Poynting LTE high gain antenna which I ordered from Geewiz and it suddenly jumped up to around 12 mbps constantly. Sometimes dipping to around 7,5 mbps, but going straight up again.
The antenna was installed to the roof of my house and is pointing into the general direction of the celltower.
The biggest challenge was finding out where exactly the tower was located.

With this speed of 12mbps and R250 per month, I really cannot moan.
Capital layout was R1300 for the router and R1300 for the antenna (price has now increased)

Just got the same setup in Sandbaai. Are you able to send me the location of the rain tower please?

I have two 24/7 contracts for work and home. Both have avereraged 0.05mbps for the last week, had to resort to MTN data bundles. No support channel whatsoever. Good bye Rain

you get what you pay for, Fibre not an option for you?

had similar experiences, till they built a tower in our area,

this weekend, spend time with one of their engineers trying different setups to see if the speeds improve on different devices.
they literally rebooted the tower and tried a few things with me.

speeds improved a bit and then dropped, oh well, you get what you pay for I guess.

No fibre yet. Evotel dropped a price list at my workplace as they are rolling out soon. But there is a choice of about 20 service providers
