RAIN LTE-A: Speedtests

That's true - no issues in terms of stability thats for sure.

What router do you use? I'm considering buying the Huawei B618 but I'm afraid it might not improve my speeds at all, it's a lot of money for that thing. Currently struggling along with the B315.

Can easily pull 20-25Mbps up/down in the mornings and weekends, but in the evenings would drop to below 10Mbps on weekdays.... But as we all know that's due to congestion and Vodacom users being prioritised.

I'm using the B618 router without antennas. The tower is about 300 meters away.

Cool, I'll bite the bullet and just buy the thing. Hope one of the other bands are less congested and gives me better performance.

So being much closer to a towerdef helps I reckon...makes sense of course, even if tower is congested you prob going to get "best" speeds possible at that point in time compared to connected users located further away due to stronger signal...

And the B618 with its CA compared to a B315.

The upload speed in that speedtest is impossible on Rain network. Spectrum limitation and tdd makes it impossible to see a 60Mbps upload....

B618 can't do ca on Rains network.

Now that I switched back to Rain Fixed LTE - I decided to do a speedtest and see what speeds I get and using same B618 Router I get similar speeds as when I was on Rain Mobile.

On which then? Telkom's and...?

The Huawei B618s-65d from Telkom can do ca between 2 band 40 spectrum blocks. You will see 4G+ on Telkom then.

The huawei B618s-22d from Rain will not ca band 3 and band 38. It can do 2 x band 38 but Rain does not have that spectrum. They only have spectrum in b3 and b38.

Gotcha, noted in case I ever decide to get a B618 or change provider
