RAIN LTE-A: Speedtests

Test Location: Muizenberg, Cape Town @ 01:04am 27/01/2020
Ping: 15ms
Download: 8.50Mbps
Upload: 10.75Mbps

Used to get +20Mbps up and down around this time of the night.

I'm just annoyed that they couldn't give a $h!t. I just want to know whats going on.
I emailed them once a week for about a month, never got a response, I will be canceling in the next 3 days there's no point in paying R1300 a month for a service that is beyond pathetic.
It seems that Rain only cares about there 5G network but it seems that they couldn't less about who comes and goes, sigh another cold faceless business lost to greed.

The Rain service via Axxess is a complete and utter scandal nowadays. Even Axxess' website is down today.

The service has been up and down for the past two months and on any day you're lucky to get 5 mbps at best, and that won't be for more than two hours in total out of every 24. In fact, I have experienced periods of up to 80 minutes today with NO throughput whatsoever.

And when you log a complaint on Axxess' website they come back to you only after three days, REFUSE to take responsibility for anything, and merely tell you to check your own hardware and settings. They clearly think we are all fools.

I pay R300 per month for 50 GB Rain data, but need to dump Axxess now without delay.

Any suggestions for a better, perhaps cheaper, but certainly a trustworthy mobile service guys?

Used to be ~20 up and down, 24/7... but this is the new norm.

Can't live like this...

Hopefully getting my Telkom sim card this week, cause not Rain nor Afrihost was willing to sort this out after a gazillion emails, phone calls, etc.

Same experience.

I just use it for 480p videos mostly on my phone as that's all it's sufficient for nowadays. Even on a proper router (B535) it struggles day time.

The only real use is downloads after 00:00 as I'm hitting 20Mbps+. So maybe I must buy that 4TB from Takealot. Fill that up then cancel and use Telkom.

What area are you in

Durban. We are barely in the coverage area. Using 1800 band is iffy, we have to use the 2600 band, have a poynting xpol 6, and b618 router. In the most optimal antenna position, we get constant 80mbps down, but opted for a more convenient place for it

Results from after 12am and then during the day for comparison, this isn't the fastest it goes but that is consistent. Screenshot_20200226-121541_Speedtest.jpeg

i am in a rain dead zone at home but i have a rain sim i stuck in a tablet of mine (galaxy tab s2 8.0) which does LTE. I get around 15mbit down and 10 up on speed tests, doing tests of large downloads it hovers around 1.4-1.7MB/s. Is this expected for a plain LTE connection on rain? I'm in CPT N Subs at the moment testing it out (Panorama). If I had LTE-A would it be better?
