My current Vodacom data contract is expiring soon and I need a new router - current deals at Vodacom and Telkom aren't too bad for what I have in mind...
The idea is to get a 10GB or so contract with either a Vodacom B315 / B618 (if Retentions really want to keep me) or a Telkom B525 / B618 (if they still have stock), for general use and use my Rain Mobile sim after 23:00 and over weekends for heavier use (R 250 unlimited offer). About 4 devices (3 wifi, 1 ethernet) will permanently use this connection.
My question - can anyone confirm on which of the mentioned routers (and variant) their Rain Mobile sim works? It does work pretty well with my current Vodacom dongle and I also tested it in a Vodacom B315-22 on-site - works but extremely slow. Funny enough, my current Vodacom sim from the dongle DID NOT work in the B315...
I have full Rain coverage and getting good speeds, no 4G / LTE coverage according to Vodacom's map yet the dongle get 1Mbps on downloads. Telkom have full coverage yet my phone struggles to maintain 4G - not sure if this matters??? Maybe I should test a Telkom Data sim...
I know different bands (1800, 2100, 2300) play a role with connectivity and speed but I first need to know which router will support my idea.
Your advice is keenly anticipated...
