Rain Network down

Is this information public knowledge because none of the RAIN re-sellers like Afrihost, Axxess, WebAfrica have made their customers aware of infrastructure upgrades. MyBB also is rather quiet too.

Webafrica did put out a statement :

Good Morning Web Africans

The RAIN network want to make things better and secure, so they implemented a few pretty awesome system changes to the network to ensure only the best preferred devices are utilized for the best connection the network has to offer.

The below routers are the compatible routers that require the roaming to be enabled to ensure connection:

• Huawei B315
• Huawei B618
• Huawei B2338 (Outdoor)
• ZTE MF253
• ZTE MF283+
• ZTE MF286

To enable roaming on the above devices please apply the below settings:

- Navigate to the router via 192.168.8.1 in a web browser. Default U/P is U:admin and p:admin
- Once on the page you will be asked to do a setup, which you can mostly next through except for the last tab in which you will need to configure a password. (Only for B618)
- Once done, you can select the “Settings” tab
- Simply hit the “Enable” button, apply and reboot.

For the B315:

- Follow the same procedure to navigate and log into the router as the B618, however you can skip changing the password on login. Default U/P is U:admin and p:admin.
- Login clicking “Settings” and input the username and password
- Below you can just select “Later” unless you really want to change the password.
- You will be greeted by the following landing screen from which you need to select “Dial-Up > Mobile Connection”
- Simply select “Enable”, apply and reboot.

Thanks All

No, you will not incur additional costs but enabling roaming will not make a difference right now.

Roaming allows you to connect to the secondary broadcast signal from RAIN. keep it enabled, I tested it twice today and both times the roaming option allowed me to stay connected when the main signal was down.

Moring

Now even worse then last night. Cant even get to MyBroadband.

Now using Telkom.

Back to normal for now.

Morning

If the network was not down. Would be nice if someone would communicate about possible outage due to network upgrades.

Think we did ask for some sort of representation here. Could this be done. Don't always rely on ISP to communicate this.
At the end we are the end users.

Ye, mine was also slow in CPT - Is this a general issue or my tower congested or capacity on tower.

Damnit im running around my house trying to move this thing and sort some cabling, start it and speeds are abysmal, undo everything I did thinking the new spot was worse, and then I come on and see this

High Packet loss and low download speed same as the rest

either that.. i think my tower has capacity issues - Speed is excellent during day and poor in evenings..

During evenings it's pushing maybe 6mbit or 7mbit download (uploads still 12meg and so)

You are so lucky. Last night my SO wanted to stream and with the download speed in the the region of 1 - 2 MBit it couldn't happen. I got faster on my 4Mbit ADSL line. I hope it's just some work being performed and not a congestion issue!

Doubt last night was congestion, everyone's connection was borked, I had over 130ms ping and download of 4

Agreed that communication is required. Have you read through the Rain FAQ? Mostly says "contact your ISP" ;-)

I hope it was just a dodgy internet speed (one for all) and not congestion :)

Yesterday I arrived home to a "Red" light again (been a while since I saw such) on my modem. So no big deal - switch off, switch on - Working again.
Tonight I get home - saw the same thing - Ponder a bit initially, but switch off switch on - working again.
So busy with some whats app items on my cell and all of a sudden, nothing happening. Go check the modem, and Red light on again.
Switch to my Vodacom R216 modem - still no activity -
Is this my cell? Is this Vodacom? Is this Rain? (Rain/Vodacom sharing?)
Reboot modem again - looks good. But can't get any network connection - no Rain nor Vodacom????
Check the R216 - looking good - got signal, but nothing happening - everything sitting at a "awaiting" state.
Try phone my SO - who's sitting next to me - "sorry, your call cannot be connected at this time"?
So go and grab a beer, come back to the patio, and "noise" - all of a sudden, everything flowing again.....

Rain and Vodacom using the same network/connection/tower????? I'm wondering???

Anyone else pick up issues? Circa 8.45 and 9.15 this evening?

Northcliff, Jhbg area.

RAIN does have a network agreement with Vodacom in some areas.

Yeah - agree. But what happened to the network? Was Vodacom down, or was it just my area/tower? Just weird that Rain had two drops in one evening, and on the second drop - no Vodacom either? (Can't speak for the first drop). First time I noticed this "conjunction" between the two. I guess I need to monitor this going forward in my area.

Its hard to believe that internet from an Lte - A network could be this bad, poor service from Rain - iv'e contacted Both Rain and Mweb

2 months later, still horrible horrible internet.
